FLASHED ECU now bike won't start

Hi guys,

Just got back my ECU that I had FLASHED at a reputable dealer. Bike won't fire up...just keeps cranking.

Bike is a '17 FZ-07.  I should say that while the ecu was out I installed new shorty levers and led signals and fender eliminator.

Bike is stock otherwise.  No error codes that I see on display.  Any help would be appreciated.  I sort of think that I am missing something simple.

I have ensued ecu is securely plugged in.  Thank you.

Could it be that your battery has drained and doesn't have enough charge to turn the engine over quick enough?

Try charging the battery or jump starting off another vehicle.

check the clutch safety switch at the clutch lever...I think your new shorty levers dont let the clutch safety switch work properly...

If the clutch switch is disconnected the bike will not even turn over unless it is in neutral, so that is not the problem.  It may be a low battery, but it could be spark or fuel, both of which the ECU flash has changed.  Sorry that is not more helpful, good luck.

Thanks for the replies guys. Battery is fully charged and starter is turning quickly.  Clutch switch is being completely activate (pushed in), so that's not it. Tried with the kickstand both up and down, but that shouldn't matter because £ have it in neutral.

Played with the ecu plug a little to make sure it was fully plugged in, but as I am sure you know, the fuel pump doesn't even prime without the ecu.

It just appears as though there is no spark. I will call the shop this morning.  I have never heard of anyone having this problem just after having their ecu flashed.  Any other tips are appreciated. 😁

More than likely an issue with the flash, but check fuses - easy enough to do. There's likely one for ignition or fuel pump

I did not think of fuses.  A lot of people seem to blow fuses when they install new turn signals for some reason.  As you said that is easy to check.

Good idea on the fuses. Checked them all including ignition and immobilzer backup and all look good.  I contacted the dealer and will be sending the ecu back this afternoon.  They are being very supportive.  I will update when it gets back to me.  Thanks for your help.

it is possible to mess up which ECU bin file to use ( US spec or EU spec)... sounds like your from the EU since you check the immobilizer fuse...

I'm in Ontario Canada so Canadian bike.  When I called the dealer in Ottawa I spoke to the guy who actually flashed it.  He thought that it may be the difference of a "1" or "0" in a code that he entered or maybe selected??  Not sure how that works, but he did say that he thinks that it is related to the immobilizer.  He was very helpful and assured me it would be taken care of.  I am happy with the support at this time.  They are a Flash Tune dealer.

1s and 0s, lol. Isn't that all there is in this digital stuff?

well, if he put the wrong number in for the immobilizer, that would sure leave it dead. At least you'll know the immobilizer works if that's the case.

I guess it's nice to have a bit of extra theft security, but people are always posting up issues with those immobilizers.

I would call the expert, Nels at @2wheeldynoworks . Flashtune's top guy left and went to work for Nels recently, they can get this figured out for you as well as anyone. (425) 269-5332

Mailed the ecu back to them. They assured me it would be corrected.  If not, I will just get my money back and ship to the shop you guys recommend. I am sure that these ECU's can be flashed an infinite number of times.

I didn't realize that not all FZ-07's had immobilizers....lucky me.  I don't care if it is disengaged through the flash.  I see one of the features of the flash-tune is "immobilizer function". I am not sure if that would just be an on/off feature or if there would be more to it.

Again, thanks for all the info I am learning here. Only two months until riding season!

Received ECU back today, plugged back in and started right up with no issue. Dealer was terrific to deal with. They contacted flash tune direct who told them that they have seen this situation once before on the Canadian model file. All good now. Looking forward to seeing the results.  Thanks again for the support.
