Alright, so it's been a little while since I last updated this. I've been unable to ride/drive since 9 July 2018 due to my stupid ass getting a DWI the morning after St. Patrick's day in 2018. I'll be getting my license back on 4 February (2 weeks from today) and plan to make up the riding I haven't been able to do in the last 210 days (once I get it back). I did roughly 10,550 miles in 248 days from the day I picked her up from the dealer to the day before I lost my license, or 42.54 miles per day. From not riding the bike for 210 days my current average once I get my license back will be about 22.98 miles per day. My goal from the point I get my license back until 31 December is to bring my average back up to 42 miles per day. To do that I'll need to put on 22,588 miles by 31 December. Which will be about 68.44 miles per day average 480 miles per week. I'm confident I can do this plus maybe a little more, I already have a trip planned for sometime this summer down to Florida so that'll take care of about 2,800 miles. It'll be a nice year of riding for sure! I'll also have to factor in the week or so I'll be without the bike when I get the valves done in the summer sometime.

How did you get a dwi  in the morning? Was it daylight? You must have been messed up if the caught you in the daylight during the morning commute.

Ah, yeah that's a bad time to be out drinking and driving. You said morning so I thought you might have been on your way to work or something. Gotta be careful out there.

Yeah, I know I messed up. Luckily I don't have an actual drinking problem or anything like that and I was always smart enough to never drink when I was riding the motorcycle but not smart enough that night to wait it out or just get an Uber home instead. Lesson learned for sure!

Well, as long as there are no surprises tomorrow at the DMV I'll be taking my first ride on the road in 211 days! I plan on at least riding down to Newark, DE to visit my old housemates and get some apparently good mac n cheese. After that if there's enough time left in the day I'm gonna ride from Delaware up to the Hawks Nest in Port Jervis, NY then home. Minimum ride will be ~180 miles (290 km) and max will be about 380 miles (612 km).

Well, I'll be ordering some Michelin Road 5s soon as I just discovered a small screw in the centre of my rear tire. I'll still ride to/from work as that's only about 10 miles (~16 km) round trip but no long distance rides. I just threw a plug in to deal with it for now.

Just dropped off the bike at the local Yamaha dealer to have the Michelin Road 5s put on. Should have it back tomorrow or Thursday. It'll be about $600 installed. About a $150 "convenience fee" over if I ordered the tires from RevZilla and just brought them the wheels. I'm fine with this since I would rather it be done sooner than later.

Wow! I didn't pay that much when I got Road 5s installed on my MT-07 AND a Power RS on my GSXR at the same time.  Regional cost differences, eh?

I just got my bike back from a short stay at the dealer for a new set of Michelin Road 5s. These tires feel great in general and in the rain as well (started to rain after I left the dealer). I only did a short ~25 mile ride but they'll be well broken in by the weekend.

Recently installed some Bark Buster hand guards about 450 miles ago now, the install was pretty easy with good instructions that came with the kit. Only change I had to make to the bike was removing the factory bar ends and adjusting the break lines exiting angle out of the master cylinder. Overall took a lazy 45 minutes to install. I also performed my first oil change/service on an FZ-07 at 11,445 miles, was very simple and checking the chain wasn't an issue, was just in spec by about 1/8" (~3mm) so it'll probably need to be adjusted when I come back from my weekend trip to Florida in less than 2 week's. Wind guards should be here today for the Bark Busters which will make a nice addition to the windscreen.

I sure hope you didn't wait until 11k miles to do your first oil change. That should have been your 4th oil change by then.

EDIT: I look forward to your after trip report on how well you like the Road 5s.👍

2nd Edit: I guess I could read that as the first time that you've personally done the maintenance, vs taking to the shop, then the sentence makes more sense. 😀

Yeah, I see how you could have misunderstood that haha. It was the first one I've done personally myself without taking it to the dealer as while it was under warranty I wanted to have the dealer preform all the services. I also put the wind guards on for my Bark Buster hand guards as they just came in the mail with my heated glove inserts. I'll be able to test them out tomorrow.

The Firstgear heated glove inserts work well! I wore them under my 3 season Alpinestars gloves and it was a little cool with it being 30°F (-1°C) out. Then I wore them under my current Gerbing heated gloves and it was perfect. A good replacement for my broken right heated glove as the temp was like I was riding in a 70°F (21°C) day.

Well the Akrapovic exhaust came in today while I was at work. Got home at 18:30 and tore the box open. Read all the paperwork and then started removing the stock exhaust around 19:30. Took my time and finished up after two test rides (one without and one with the baffle) at about 22:00. It's hilariously loud without the baffle and sounds like it'll put my dad's Harley to shame. With the baffle installed it has a nice sound to it but is just quiet enough where you'll likely not get harassed by police or wake the entire neighbourhood up at night. I'm very pleased with the exhaust after only about 6 miles on it. Tomorrow will likely see a few good miles be put on.

Replaced the plugs and coolant per service manual. Everything still looks great with the bike. Coolant was easy about a 30 minute job from draining, filling and burping the system. Plugs took me about a hour and a half with me taking my time + forgetting to plug the fuel pump back in and fixing that. Test ride went well with no issues to report. Took a photo of the plugs that came out which were replaced at around 8,000 miles (12,874 km) they are oriented so they are as they were sitting in the engine as you are on the bike.

Installed a generic FZ-07 radiator guard today that I ordered from Amazon for $35. Fits well over the radiator and looks pretty good as well. Also did my first chain adjustment as the chain was at about 2.75" (70mm) and I adjusted it to about 2.12" (53mm). No more clank on takeoff.

Bike is officially mine now! Just paid off the last $5,400 on the loan so should have my title in the mail in a couple weeks I'm assuming. This now joins my first two bikes ('03 Buell XB9R and an '09 Buell 1125CR) as bikes I've officially owned and the first of the 3 bikes I've taken a loan out for that I've completed the loan myself ('15 Yamaha FZ-07, had to trade in and '15 Honda Grom, was totaled when I was rearended by a texting driver). Only took about a year and 7 months and 21,130 miles before it happened. I'm excite!
