Too many have used Rotella for too many years and too many miles - if there was a problem with its ability to protect, it would have surfaced. For those demanding JASO-certification, this may be of interest: http://www.jalos.or.jp/onfile/pdf/4T_EV_LIST.pdf

But also this discussion: https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2647970
Seconded. I also use Rotella. No problems yet.

P1: Vice? I have no vice, I'm as pure as the driven snow!
P2: Yeah but you've been drifting

All the gear all the time!

So, is this the right stuff? I hope so because it's less than half the price of the Motul Oil I've been using.

Sounds like people use that or T6 5W-40. I'm using T6, which is synthetic and about $8 more per gallon than T4. Either way, it's cheaper than the M1 oil I was using and performs better on my bike. Wal-Mart's website actually advertises T6 as a motorcycle oil while the T4 wasn't, but that's just a Wal-Mart thing I think. Both are listed with the Yamaha required JASO-MA rating , so either way you'll be good.

Here is the T6 link:

OK, thanks! I use synthetic also and that T6 is still ten dollars cheaper (gal.) than what I was using.

diesel Rotella is perfectly safe and tested to be safe in wet clutch applications. My dad was the head of lubricants for Shell and he knows better than most anyone what will work.Diesel is simply put better at higher temperature longer than regular oil. Who wouldn't want that in their bike?
That's rhetorical btw.

thats diesel oil. i wouldnt run that. completely different type of engine. i dont believe its made for wet clutches

Which Rotella are you quoting as not being wet clutch compliant because I use T4 Diesel and it is well rated above minimum wet clutch requirements.

rotella is API type CJ4. yamaha calls for API type SG. the other from rotella is JASO standard DH2. yamaha calls for JASO standard MA. im not trying to argue im new here but have been down the oil discussion route in powersports many many times. at a minimum you want a wet clutch compatible oil which rotella is not. now i have no idea what kind of consequences will come from using rotella if any but why would you use a oil that is not designed for our engines and doesnt meet any specifications? im not going to argue. just trying to state the facts is all.

I've been running it for roughly a week now, and it's made one hell of a difference. Shifts are smoother, motor is much more quiet, and the bike feels much more stable in the top 3rd of the rev range. I was skeptical and apprehensive, but after beating the brakes off my bike in the last week I can't see myself using anything else moving forward.

Hope that helps. Have fun and safe riding!

Edit:Using T6
