Are you going to go back to Chuckwalla any time soon? If so, I'll definitely see you there. My buddy and I picked up some R3's and I've started my own race team. We're gonna race in the lightweight classes :)

Needle's buried deep ain't it?
Not sure if I'll make it back this season as my daughter's getting married.  I have 5 race weekends and a couple track days scheduled. I had to go back to work to pay my crack dealer too.

Congrats on the team. The little bikes are a hoot! And cheap fun to boot. Have fun, I know I have. And post up pics.
Will do...

This is what makes the track so damn fun. The kids put all their marbles, action figures and toys on the table and play hard till we fall down asleep, then repeat. My tire/suspension guy, performance shop and parts dealer all have my cc info and extend credit. Look at the bright side, the more we waste the less the government has to take.  Everyone wins! ?

[div]Well, we buttoned it up and put it back on the track for the May round to see where we're at. I had hoped to report some sort of revelation here but after much tinkering, tuning, trial, error, dynoing, prayer, vodoo magic and cussing we made the following determinations;[/div][div]
[/div][div]A. As built, the motor is extremely well engineered for its intended purpose, a stonking midrange street bike motor. Kudos to Yamaha engineers. There just isn't much meat left on the bone w/o going into SB with cams and intake mods. We were able to make serious improvement to the mid range (3-5hp from 4000-7000rpm). But, try as we might, the gains tapered off on top. It just struggles to breath. To get any sort of gain on top we had to gut the middle, unacceptable. Good for the short course not so much on the long. Roll on power coming off the corners, while good before, is outstanding now. 2nd and 3rd gear power wheelies are easy. [/div][div]
[/div][div]B. Compared to a similarly prepared Suzuki it makes a couple less peak hp but several more midrange ponies. All other things being equal, going head to head agin an SV is like whompin each other with opposite ends of a ball peen hammer. So much fun!  [/div][div]
[/div][div]C. Bottom line, considering the return it may be more cost effective to stop with a flash/pc and a pipe. BUT, it's way more fun with some motor work. Only you can decide what any extra hp is worth. As is the bike is a wonderfully capable and cooperative dance partner. We're not quite done yet; however, stay tuned?.[/div][div]
