doodsaibot Posted April 3, 2016 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Hey fellas! I am a younger guy in Central Texas that started riding motorcycles about a year ago, although, I do not yet have an FZ07. In my search for a new bike, I compared a few other rides to the FZ07; the Suzuki SV650, the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Honda NC700. I found the 07 is the best choice for me in terms of power and straight up fun. I am hopping on this sight to gather as much info as possible on this FZ bike since I plan on turning it into a light touring bike when I get it. I didn't come to the site empty handed, however. I currently ride a 1983 Yamaha Maxim 400. It's a lightweight (410 lbs.) parallel twin, DOHC high rev motor much like the FZ. It's a nice entry level Yamaha and I have ridden 6,000 miles with it in about a year. Everything from city streets to highways to twisty hill country back roads. I love this bike and hope to add the 07 to my collection. doodsaibot Posted April 3, 2016 Author Share Posted April 3, 2016 Thanks, i28! I have put quite a bit of work into this ride. I had to completely tear apart and rebuild the carburetors which was a learning experience for me since I am not a mechanic and was not familiar with motorcycles in general. After that, I converted the headlight to a 4300K HID bulb and had a friend help me slap on some new Kenda tires. The bike sat in a garage with virtually no miles on it for years before I bought it. I also swapped all the instrument cluster bulbs and brake light bulbs to LED and installed a 6000K underglow kit for better visibilty (and style). Got rid of the 80's style antenna mirrors for low profile bar end mirrors and put on some lower set Euro handlebars. It looks and rides like a cruiser but revs up real high and redlines at 10,000 RPMs. I just eclipsed 9,400 miles on the odometer today with 6,000 of those miles being mine. I plan on doing more this year before I get the 07 which I am sure will be a hell of a lot more powerful and can carry me a bit further than this 400. And yes, MK is a classic!
