Premium Member biggaudi Posted April 1, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted April 1, 2016 @albatrosscafe The magnets seem pretty strong! Aggressively stick to other metallic objects in my garage. Should be good!
autoentropy
I've been using Motul 7100 and the bike is responsive and shifts smooth. I purchased a PC racing stainless steel reusable filter and love that too. Built like a tank and has nice features. Haven't changed the air filter yet as I've heard you should probably be tuning the fueling or ECU if you do that. Links below plus magnetic drain plugs that work nicely. Was going to buy a 25$ one from a shop.

Do you still do your changes every ~3k miles or so?
Premium Member biggaudi Posted April 1, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted April 1, 2016 @autoentropy oil changes are relatively quick and easy so yeah, why not? The filter just needs cleaned and dried real good

This one is supposed to filter significantly better than a average filter because of the structure of the filter and the internal magnet. So I imagine that entails you could probably let your oil changes go longer. Yamaha claims every 6k miles in the manual right? Meh, to each his own

Premium Member biggaudi Posted April 1, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted April 1, 2016 The one I'm looking at is a 2014 version I think. Though it is for an MT07 and that may be the difference
bmwpowere36m3
Links below plus magnetic drain plugs that work nicely. Outlaw Racing Magnetic Oil Drain Plug 14mm x 1.5 Yamaha Motorcycle FJ FJR XJ XS XT XV https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AWDBQSK/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_Koc6wb32G6EKT Do you find yourself catching anything with the magnetic drain plug? How many miles do you have on your bike? I did on the first 1k miles… but just a "fuzz" like you typically see in on a diff drain bolt. I did however find small specks and silvers in the oil filter, since I cut them open with each change. Broke-in hard and changed oil frequently during the first 1500 miles. Runs awesome and burns no oil.
bmwpowere36m3
I wouldn't use those SS oil filters. Paper filters are cheap, easy and clean…. plus, filter better.
Premium Member avanti Posted April 24, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted April 24, 2016 Definitely N O T !!! This was all determined legally years ago, decades actually. As long as you use appropriate oil and filters, on schedule, and keep your receipts, you are fine.
cndnmax
It's a common practice to make you spend more money, at least I sure hope they don't believe themselves. Just like the 3k miles oil changes. Ask yourself why the exact same bike would have a different service schedule for America vs Europe. I use rottella t6 synthetic diesel oil and I plan of changing it every 5k miles- make for nice intervals(10k miles might be a little much haha)
Premium Member avanti Posted May 11, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted May 11, 2016 I would strongly suggest motorcycle oil with any bike having a wet clutch.
cndnmax
I would strongly suggest motorcycle oil with any bike having a wet clutch. JASO MA rating (wet clutch) is what is required, don't have to pay extra to have to words motorcycle printed on the bottle.
aognr
in Turkey most of the official services claims the same thing. if you dont use yamalube your warrenty will be violated which is the most stupid argument. and by the way varrenty is a bullshit story too... my advice is do not care about warrenty and go with 7100...
