How To: Installing HID Bi Xenon head light kit

I decided to buy a HID kit for the bike. I found this cheap set on eBay and thought I give it a try. Nothing to loose really, $54 for a two bulbs and free shipping. I made sure that they shipped H4 bulbs because they have a lot of kits.

It didn't take long to arrive.

The first thing I noticed then opening the kit is that the bulbs looked different.. not a good sign.  :-S

I then proceeded with removing the body parts and head light unit. Pretty straight forward stuff but here are lots of pics of every bolt:

I then unplugged the head light and took the bulb out

But there was no way to fit the bulb that came with the kit. It seems that the actual fitting or housing was missing.  B-|

So I did some creative hacking and a normal H4 bulb sacrificed its fitting...

..and I was able to secure the bulb in the head light.

Wiring is pretty straight forward. There is a nice open spot behind the right panel (where the ABS unit normally goes). Lots of room to put the balast and other parts. I cut off half of the wiring, because we only need one bulb. There is one wire that goes to the positive of the battery and one that needs to go to the negative. But the negative wire was too short so I made a new ground.

I then did a mockup layout see if everything works before buttoning up the patient.

I turned the key and... nothing. So I started checking all the wiring and plugs and just couldn't figure out what it could be. Until I realized that the engine needs to run!! How stupid of me.  (zzz)

I then tucked in all the wiring and ..

..continued putting back the side panel. There is a rubber thingy that you need to put back into the hole before pushing back the panel. It comes off when you pull the panel.

There is one problem remaining. In a normal light bulb there is a metal piece that blocks light downwards in low. That is missing. So now I have Hi and when I engage Hi, the new bulb moves backwards and I get Hi but with a different pattern.
I sent the seller an message for replacement bulbs. So I can't report on the actual improvement until I fit the correct bulb.

I also had to wiggle the wiring and plugs a bit to get the bulb to start. I guess that's what you get when you go cheap. Worst case I will replace this kit with a better one if it starts acting up. At least I have a nice write up what to do.

Little update.

Like I said in my write up, the housing or shield was missing. I contacted the seller and they sent me the missing parts. They arrived today so I finally got the chance to finish this project.

Everything works as it should now. It is hard to capture the light output with a picture, but it is definitely way better then the stock bulb
