Global Moderator Guru Posted July 28, 2014 Global Moderator Share Posted July 28, 2014 One of the available Yamaha accessories is coloured mesh for the air intake and the side covers. It comes in red, white, blue and black. I ordered a set last week and I just installed them. It turned out to be quite a bit of work. I had to strip down the rear and the tank panels. It wasn't difficult but tedious and time consuming. I snapped a couple of pictures for your enjoyment. I love the result. I think it complements my red spring and gives the bike a more personalized look. The orange turn signals look a bit out of place, but they will be gone soon. I will make some more pictures outside once the weather clears up. Lot's of rain. No riding for me today. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh01.jpghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh02.jpghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh03.jpghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh04.jpghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh05.jpghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh06.jpghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh07.jpghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh08.jpg
Premium Member hobbs Posted July 28, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted July 28, 2014 Those look great, I really dig it with the red spring. Might try to fabricate my own inserts later on down the line, unless they're priced really well. Thanks for sharing! Edit: Also the cleaned up rear end is a big improvement. Did you fab that or go with a kit? Everything went braap.
Global Moderator Guru Posted July 28, 2014 Author Global Moderator Share Posted July 28, 2014 Thanks! The mesh inserts are not cheap (for what it is) but I have 'a guy' so I get a discount on stuff. They are good quality and pre formed which makes it easier to install. The Tail Tidy is the Yamaha 'Sport Licence Plate Holder' without the middle part. Global Moderator Guru Posted July 29, 2014 Author Global Moderator Share Posted July 29, 2014 When you said you were going to do that I did not think I would like it. I was wrong. It looks great. To be honest, I thought the same thing and I am glad I was wrong too. I was hoping for this look: http://worldwartwozone.com/aussie-dave.gallery/P_51B.thumb.jpg and was afraid it would turn into this: http://letourbabe.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/banana-bike.jpg But it didn't
manuel
You've got to stop giving me ideas! It looks great, thanks for taking the time to take pictures!! Side note: did you happen to notice any flasher relay during your digging beneath panels and such?

Side note: did you happen to notice any flasher relay during your digging beneath panels and such? I actually went looking for it and I think it's here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/IMG_1042.jpg I'm not sure though. I tried the signals but I couldn't hear of feel it clicking. But it looks like a relay and it had some text on it referring to 4 bulbs or lights. I didn't disconnect it to verify it was the relay, sorry. I also could't find the elusive 12V aux plug btw
Guest montana07
By the way, am I the only who thinks the bike looks kinda sexy "super naked"?
manuel
Yes, that text referring to 4 bulbs is what gives it away. Thanks for checking! When the new relay arrives, I will go through the process in the dedicated thread! For sure, bike looks good when nude. Maybe we can suggest that to Guru, this way he can finally get a bike of a reasonable color, as that white he's rocking looks slow
Global Moderator Guru Posted July 29, 2014 Author Global Moderator Share Posted July 29, 2014 Oh no not the battle of the colors again! I thought we settled that. Come on, a white bike with red air intakes FTW!

I was just teasing - you left that door open 8-)Of course, it looks super cool. And it matches the colors of Hinomaru, too.

Global Moderator Guru Posted July 29, 2014 Author Global Moderator Share Posted July 29, 2014 It's hard to capture the visual impact of the red mesh on the bike. Can't wait to swap out those orange turn signals. They look out of place now. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/IMG_1053.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/IMG_1055.jpg

afwestpunk
wonder if I could just spray the stock mesh... "It takes an idiot to do cool things; that's why it's cool" - FLCL
Global Moderator Guru Posted July 31, 2014 Author Global Moderator Share Posted July 31, 2014 I think you could. But there is no mesh in the back of the bike. Just a plastic cover plate. The stock front mesh is not that sturdy and the replacement actually slides in front of the original mesh. You need to pry off 3 rings to take off the mesh. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/mesh2.jpg

mericc
I just ordered the white mesh, does it just slip on? Or am I going to have to take a day off from work lol 2015 Pearl White FZ-07 "such a torky lil guy"
Global Moderator Guru Posted August 2, 2014 Author Global Moderator Share Posted August 2, 2014 It slides in front of the existing mesh at the front and the covers in the back. You wil have to do quite a bit of work taking off the body work as you can see in the pictures. You will have to take your time.
afwestpunk
Just took of the fairings on the bike and see the retainer clips. Maybe a little tricky to remove them after all, but going to try because 'MERICA! nmucat
Just got the blue front pieces for my bike and trying to hold off on install til I get the rear pieces so I'm not taking things apart more than once. If I was a smart man I would have realized earlier that they had pieces for the rear available I could have saved a few bucks in shipping. And I agree with GURU for what they are, its quite pricey.
