thestache Posted July 7, 2015 Share Posted July 7, 2015 Before I start....it's a Two Brothers exhaust with Dobek EJK...sorry @cruizin, I NEVER knew I would post this video :( So, I watched a few videos on the Sena 10C as I wanted a camera, but also wanted other capabilities as well. So, I broke down and got the Sena 10C Pros: - All in one, so you get Bluetooth, FM Radio, Communications, Microphone, Video, and still camera - Lightweight - Easy install - Trusted company Cons: - Can be confusing (twist the wheel, hold this button, hold the wheel and twist it...etc.) - Sena voice does not cut out audio/music when it talks - Pricey(to some, but not to me since you get all the above in one package) - "Fuzzy" audio, probably just me being a noob and not installing the mic in a good spot First some people have mentioned the wiring position, and it hitting a backpack strap, I wear a backpack all the time, no issues at all. So, the cons were not many, but to me they could be confusing as this was my 1st device. In order to operate Sena 10C you have to use the same buttons for different functions, now the issues start when at home, with the directions, you are an expert, but 10min into your ride, you forget how to __________(fill in the blank) The voice cutoff, should be an easy fix for them, as she talks so low when music is playing, you never hear her. For me the pros, far outweigh the cons, being somewhat anal, and ADD...having multiple things hanging off my headset would drive me crazy. So, having the Sena 10C with all the items I need in a compact package was a HUGE win for me. It's VERY easy to install, and the ability to hide wires under helmet sections make this a piece of cake, also the velcro pad for the ear pieces that Sena includes are fantastic, and fit in a perfect spot inside my Shoei Neotec. Also Sena is trusted, their comm devices with radio and bluetooth pairing are top notch and easy to use, and riders love them. fooschnickens Posted July 8, 2015 Share Posted July 8, 2015 The Sena voice volume has to do with the fiddly nature of how their volume settings work. Basically, every aspect of the Sena has its own dedicated volume: System Volume (Sena voice, notification tones, etc.), Connected device volume (phone, GPS, bluetooth, etc.), FM Radio volume, and so on. If your system volume is too low or too high, you will either not be able to hear the Sena voice or be deafened by it. To set it, turn your Sena on but do not connect it to any other device. Adjust the volume to where you can hear the voice clearly when the device powers on but not so loud that it's painful. I had to power cycle mine a couple times before I found a good place for it. Once you've done that, do the same for the other features you plan to use. It will remember the last volume setting for each feature, so remember to turn it down a bit if you were on the highway so you don't kill yourself while sitting in your garage getting ready to go. The other thing to look at is the Audio Multitasking settings. Make sure it's set to on and the sensitivity is set to around 5-6. This sufficiently ducks everything else out of the way when I get a notification or a phone call so I know what's going on. You can get to these settings through the phone app or desktop config utility. Oh yeah, and the fuzzy recorded audio could be from you talking too loud. You really don't need to shout at all when using it, talking at a normal conversation level is often more than enough for it to pick things up, even at highway speeds. I had the little small round mic but heard that the boom microphone has better audio quality. I would switch it out and use the boom microphone inside the helmet. I have the Shoe RF1200. One thing I'm waiting for is my external Sena SMH10 battery pack that I plan on mounting on the back of the helmet and connect to the 10C to extend the battery life on it so I never have to worry about battery life and I can record all day and use the bluetooth. I've been doing some searching and haven't been able to find out if anyone has thought about connecting external batteries to it to do this. I guess I'll be finding out soon. The battery should arrive this week. Another thing is that the specs say it can support up to a 32gig card but I installed a 64gig card so i can always record in 1080p without filling it up. I didn't really have room for it in my GT-Air because of where the cheekpads fit in and how the internal shell was molded, but the little "button" mic seems to be working great so far for me. I should try recording something through it sometime to see what it sounds like. Battery life is one thing I'm interested in seeing with the 10c and any iterations past that. I've only drained my 20S once or twice in the many months I've owned it, and that's with about an hour's worth of riding a day with bluetooth music/GPS playing the entire time. I usually plug it in every couple weeks just because I figure I should haha. Its not a straight connection. I had to use OTG USB cable with a USB cord to connect it the SENA 10C. I'd rather have something connected to my helmet so i can put the helmet on and take it off without worrying about trying to connect the cable after getting the helmet on. I knew this could be a far reach but it doesn't seem like the external sena battery works. When plugged into the SENA 10C the charging light doesn't even come on so that tells me it doesnt work. I will look for an alternative. I know it comes with a cigarette lighter charger but i want everything on the helmet. fooschnickens Posted July 12, 2015 Share Posted July 12, 2015 It looks like people are getting between 1.5-2 hours of constant video usage which is on par with a gopro without the extended battery back. Have you tried using a third-party battery pack to see if the SMH battery just isn't putting out enough juice? With a power-hungry device like the 10C (in comparison with the SMH-10) the smaller battery pack might not have enough output to trigger the charging state of the 10C. I have confirmed a 3rd party battery pack will work. I tried my IOGEAR battery pack and it charged the SENA 10C. I just want to find a small one to attach to the back of the helmet. For the best audio quality use the boom mic. Its like having mono sound vs stereo sound quality. Big night and day difference. The sound comes from the microphone thats plugged into the unit. I do like to use this as a security camera but for me its not bad for a all around camera as well. I do have the gopro but then i have to remember to remove the gopro if i stop somewhere. If I can get a small battery pack to extend the life of the sena a little more ill be happy with it. it still doesn't hurt to have 2 video cameras running. one for straight view and the other one recording what i'm looking at. Allan Posted July 18, 2015 Share Posted July 18, 2015 I just got the camera yesterday and I was messing around getting it to work and learning what it can do. I really like it a lot. I haven't been able to record any video yet but will soon. From what I've seen so far, the build quality is superb and it fits in my helmet very well. I have an HJC IS-MAX BT. When I pick up an action cam, I'll probably go with the Sena Prism as it is easily compatible with my smh10 unit and offers a display screen, better video quality, and can be moved around if desired. I wasn't there to be the top of line camera but to me the quality is great and i don't have to fumble with another camera trying to figure out where i want to mount it today or forget to take it with me if i get off my bike. I have a GoPro as well but I do like that Sena made something innovative that I'm sure a lot of people thought about. Its really not complicated at all once you've played with it for a little while and had some rides with it. I find it fairly easy to use now.
