bmwpowere36m3
For my first oil change I used the K&N. I think I got a faulty oil filter because when I am riding my FZ hard I notice it leaks a bit. It was torqued to spec. The factory one did not leak. Prolly go back to that one on next oil change. The factory oil filter is way too tight... spin on filter till the gasket just touches and turn it an additional 2/3 to 3/4 of a turn. I do it all by hand and the filter always required considerable force to remove later on (by hand again or strap wrench makes it much easier).
bmwpowere36m3
@bmwpowere36m3 do you have a part number for the Bosch 3300 or the link to get it for $4, I would really appreciate it. Thanks! I get them thru our dealership, ordered from Worldpac, which I think is CARQUEST for consumers. I've seen them online for right around 4-5 as well, before shipping. The P/N is 3300 (Bosch). For $5-8 I'd rather throw a fresh filter on and throw the old one out.
ShiftHer
I was at my local Walmart today and found Fram PH6017A oil filter for 6.97,anybody ever used one?Well, I know this post is old, but since it was never answered, just thought I would respond anyway. I used this Fram filter for the oil change before last and it worked just fine. For my last oil change I went with the K&N filter simply for the convenience of the nut on the end. I've used them twice now and Purolator as well. Actually Bosch and Purolator PureOne (old yellow) are basically identical in terms of construction. timjh
IMHO, like accent lights under the gas tank, the nut on the end is nothing more than a gimmick.Yes and no. The way the nut is attached it will rip right off when you apply enough torque to tighten or remove the filter. The holes in the nut, OTOH, do greatly simplify safety wiring. Not that I do it on my bike, but there are other applications where I do.
peteinpa
The bosch 3300 filters still work fine. Both of my bikes use them. Just ordered 10 of them from rock auto. The base plate is kind of flat. Not concave or convex. FZ-07's bolt in the center of the oil filter is recessed enough that any filter should work. The FJR1300 for one sticks out more and doesn't work with a convex filter baseplate. Got new red 2015 FZ-07 on 7/22/16! Black 2006 Honda ST1300 53K miles. markstertt
I'm using K&N 204 because I like the nut for removal and for safetying the filter which I also do to the drain plug...oil spills from those locations cause some concern. The other day I googled K&N 204 problems because I had read somewhere that they have issues with cracks emanating from the spot welds under that nice wrenching section. Sure enough, the search resulted in multiple pictures and reports of failed -204's. I don't need to use the wrenching nut to install the filter and of course I don't care if it cracks the case on removal but if it happens at all, then I need to use a different brand. atxjax
Here is the problem some folks are running into with the Bosch 3300 filters. If you get a filter like the one on the left you are good to go. if you get one like the one on the right you may have problems depending on how thick the sealing ring is. mick97702
So I'm looking for a filter that has a slightly larger diameter housing. The stock filter is 2.62" and I am looking for 2.75-3.00". Dose anyone know if any of these listed are in that range? I know it seems like a weird request but I want to install a filter heat-sink as a guard for it as it sits so low and exposed on the bike. I found a very nice looking one but it's a hair too large for the stock filter.
d3af0ldm0nk
I ordered a Yamaha 5GH-13440-50-00 filter from Amazon. I received a 5GH-13440-60 in a rather beat up 5GH-13440-50-00 box. The filter itself looks new. I did a side-by-side comparison with the 50-00 on the bike and they look identical, I just haven't been able to find much information on it, except on eBay and some marine/outboard sites where it says it supersedes the 50-00, 30-00 and 00-00. The eBay sites say it is fz/mt-07 compatible, but I want to be sure. Will using it on the fz-07 be a problem and what is the difference between it and the 50-00? I really don't want to go through the hassle of returning it, if I don't need to. This is the mid break-in oil change (~275 miles), so it won't be on there long. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/YAMAHA-GENUINE-OIL-FILTER-5GH-13440-60-R1-R6-MT07-MT09-FZ6-FJR-XVS-MANY-MORE-/291966712700?rmvSB=true
d3af0ldm0nk
I think I found the answer. According to the link below, the 5GH-13440-60-00 filter comes with the 2017 fz-07. http://www.yamahapartspitstop.com/oemparts/a/yam/58a232a387a866120cd9f55b/oil-cleaner
YZEtc
The 50-00 supersedes to the 60-00. If you order a 50-00, you get the 60-00. The swapping the boxes part may have been done by somebody for some reason before you got it. I used the 60-00 on my last oil and filter change. RSTX
Heads up: I changed the oil on my new-to-me 2016 FZ 07 today and found that the Bosch 3300 filter would not screw on. I had ordered a Purolator PL14610 PurolatorONE filter and a Yamaha OEM just in case. Glad I did. The Bosch came from Amazon. Not sure why it did not go on. The Purolator fit great. firstyammerha
more recent post. I changed my oil a couple hundred miles ago using Yamalube 10W40 and a Fram 6017A filter. The oil that was drained was pretty dark after 2000 miles of use. No problems with the Fram so far but I wish I could have found the ToughGard version locally. Nobody had the Purolator or Wix filters mentioned in this string either so went with the standard filter. Fram has been a good brand for me and my cars over the years so I'm not worried about it working. Update on April 2020 and around 2000 miles with this Fram filter. The oil looks very clean and only one small addition of oil necessary so far. Edited May 1, 2020 by firstyammerha update
shinyribs
I don't mean to be offensive to anyone at all, but I will be blunt. I wouldn't put a Fram on anything. Yes, things can change and it's possible that Fram currently makes the best filter that ever existed. Back when I was heavy in to drag racing we started seeing Fram filters collapse in on themselves. Not only does it empty whatever debris it has caught in to the oiling system, but you also get all that weird paper filter media floating around and getting lodged in places that would love to have oil instead. I know more than one engine builder/ machinist who would refuse to work on anyone's engine if there was a Fram oil filter installed. These were low rpm American V8 engines, no sustained high rpm bike engines, too. As far as the black oil after 2k miles, I don't think this is relative to the filter used. I have been getting Blackstone Labs to analyze every oil sample that comes out of my FZ and 2k miles is about as long as oil stays "yellow" in these engines. Wet clutches and motorcycle gearboxes simply just do this to oil, but my oil reports have always come back gleaming. Wear metals and contaminants are always far below the averages. I've only run Yamalube and Yamaha filters on this bike. I'm not a firm believer in using Yamaha branded parts, but my local dealership actually has good prices on these items so I just went with it. Something like $20 for a gallon of Yamalube and $6-8 for the filter. I'm also not a huge believer in "synthetics", but that's a beehive that doesn't need poking. scotto
Revival of a very old thread, I know but I have read all the filter threads I can find on site and have found nothing concerning my question. I have left over from when I had my 2015 FJ09 a number of Mahle OC575 oil filters. They look identical to the Tusk oil filters that have been recommended on this site. I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that these filters will work on a 2018 MT07. Thank you for any advise. Please Mister Fantasy play us a tune, something to make us all happy.
