bmak
Does anyone else notice that the cable running to the display computer is right in the way of the ignition? Or is this the way my bike is? Maybe a bit of ziptie to hold to the side?
Global Moderator mjh937 Posted May 2, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted May 2, 2015 Mine goes under the handlebars to the outside of the left handlebar mount. It is not in the way of the ignition at all.
dewski
I took the display off and moved my cable to a better route both out of the way and sight.
bmak
Here is a photo of the cable from the front.... Dewski: can you post a photo of how you did the mod?
Premium Member phicurious86 Posted May 2, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted May 2, 2015 Looks like a ziptie to the other cable could fix your issue bmak.
Global Moderator Guru Posted May 2, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted May 2, 2015 This is how it looks on mine:
Global Moderator mjh937 Posted May 3, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted May 3, 2015 Mine is routed totally differently. I have not modified it at all.
Global Moderator Guru Posted May 3, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted May 3, 2015 I didn't modify mine either. I wonder why some are routed differently. I am pretty sure the bike comes in a crate from Japan with the dash and bar etc.. already installed so it is not a delivery mistake.
g3ngo
The routing on mine is like that of the OP and it's annoying. I haven't quite settled on whether to zip tie it or actually re-route it.
Global Moderator mjh937 Posted May 3, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted May 3, 2015 I wonder if it changes at a certain production number. Mine is newer than yours @Guru. I do not know the OP's production number (I quickly looked through the list but did not see it).
bmak
I'll check for the production number, but just picked it up two weeks ago new from dealer....
bmak
If the production number is the last few digits of vin, then my fz-07 is 000978 .. A white bike. added to this thread.
Global Moderator mjh937 Posted May 3, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted May 3, 2015 @bmak, that is it. Mine is 1205 and @Guru's is lower than mine too. Maybe I am on to something.
bmak
I quickly put on a zip tie, but still don't like it. I like how the other bikes were routed...I wonder if that is something I can do without too much effort... Yamaha must have realized there was a better way and updated their production line...too bad my bike was not one of them... Makes me wonder what other improvements I have missed.... rotaryryan24
I'm #133 and my cord went around the outside of the handle bar mounts. You do or don't Then your dead. To order a tail tidy click One-off-fabrication.myshopify.com
Guest sportyeight
I wonder if that is something I can do without too much effort... Pull the two allen bolts up front if you need the room, pull the connector from the gauge cluster, move wire, plug connector back in to gauge cluster, replace two allen bolts. Just did it, took 3 minutes. Cake.

YZEtc
It is supposed to be put together as shown in mjh937's pic. That is: The wire routed to the outside of the left-hand side (clutch lever side) handlebar mount, not the inside and over the main switch. My bike was routed incorrectly, too, and I soon changed it to how it should be because a wire lead covering the main switch doesn't make sense. Why is this? Same reason some bikes were sold with the battery positive lead misrouted: Those parts are put together upon assembly from the shipping crate, and it was put together incorrectly. Period. The handlebar and the meter have to be installed when assembling the bike, and there are diagrams in the Assembly Manual showing correct routing as well as words printed in that manual cautioning to refer to those diagrams.Luckily, as DenniMoto wrote, it's an easy fix. bmak
Glad I paid all those high dealer prep fees... I'll give it a shot today... Does anyone have a link or scan of the dealer assembly manual?I was going to scan through it and see what else they were supposed to "prep" Cheers Bmak
Global Moderator Guru Posted May 3, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted May 3, 2015 I just re-routed my cable. Like @DenniMoto says, it's a simple and easy job. It looks much cleaner. Thanks for pointing this out. People should check if their bikes have the same issue.
Premium Member Kipawa Posted May 3, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted May 3, 2015 Thank you to everyone I just corrected this as well!!! Wasn't "blocking" ignition but much cleaner now that around support and tucked underneath! Stupid stealerships!!!
dewski
Mine was initially routed like yours @bmak I just pulled off the display and routed it like the picture below Mine is routed totally differently. I have not modified it at all.
bmak
Just rerouted mine... 10mm socket to lift off the computer made it very easy. Thanks for all the pics and recommendations everyone! Heading to Switzerland for the week so won't be riding until next weekend... Sniff sniff Cheers BMak
bmwpowere36m3
Mine's the same as the OP (bought bike yesterday, # 2462). Pretty sure its a dealer "issue/mistake", since their mounting it. I'm going to reroute mine today to go around the outside of the left handlebar mount. Hell, they weren't even sure whether the battery cable recall was done... which is wasn't so I had to wait another day to get it.
Premium Member hippiebikerchick Posted May 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted May 22, 2015 Mine needed rerouting too, just took care of it. Thanks for this info! Illegitimi non carborundum
