Suzuki GSX-S750 or Yamaha FZ-07

Sorry, but just telling you the truth. This is the FZ-07 Forums and you will only get one answer.
I understand that. But your response was uncalled for. This was second or third post. I would expect such a response from a regular member but not from the admin. If you're trying to expand your forum and bring in new members you should be more welcoming. I might be wrong but I thought that forums were created as a place for people with the same interest to come together to share, learn, have fun and create friendships. With that attitude you'll just push people away.
Well, since im not an admin...
Grow thicker skin.

I think Cruizin's comment was on point and true to the fact that you're on an 07 forum which happens to be a new bike so people are still in the gushing phase.  You're not going to find true objectivity from 80% of the membership.

You're going to be the only one who can actually answer that question and you seem to be on the right path by trying to demo ride both bikes.  We would welcome your findings after you've ridden both bikes as many of us wont have the chance to ride a Suzuki S750.

I currently ride an 05 R1. I love it to death but for the type of riding I do is just way too much. Most of my riding in in the city. I want something small, comfortable and with enough power to get into a bit of trouble lol. The FZ and 750 fit the bill.

After you've ridden both, let us know what you think.
There are going to be some pretty extreme differences between the two due to the engine configs.

I would say the FZ. I am trying to be as omniscient as I can, but for city riding and commuting you will want that torque down low. I think I would get an upright liter bike (z1000, CB1000r, or GSX-S1000) before I would consider the 750. Those bikes have upright riding positions and the power that you are accustomed to with your R1.

I thought about the FZ1. But I don't like the way it looks. Not a fan of the Z1000 and insurance on the CB1000R is borderline criminal.

I saw the Suzuki was announced a couple months after I bought my FZ. I thought about checking one out.

For me, I think the low down torque of the twin will beat the 4 cyl for around town use.

And what I think is the biggest difference...weight: FZ-07 is 397lbs. GSXS750 is 470lbs! That is a HUGE difference!

Of course you should ride both and decide for yourself, but even without riding either it would seem pretty cut and dried to me. The FZ is lot lighter, has more torque, is cheaper, has better gas mileage, and the kicker -- I don't think you can get the Suz with those really awesome blurple wheels. :) That and every review I've seen of the FZ says it is awesome (one even calling it a "once a decade bike"), and every review of the GSX-S750 sounded like "meh."

I think the FZ-07, obvious since that is what I bought. If they had based it on the current 750 and kept the weight down it may have been great but of course the price could not have been low enough to compete. The FZ-07 is a great combination of power, weight and price. I also think riding both would be a good idea. I think Suzuki used to offer a good product for a great price, now they seem to be a good product for a not so great price, just look where the DL1000 falls. I really feel like Yamaha is on top now with great products for good to competitive pricing.

I say get a Ducati Monster 1200. That way you will know without a doubt your bike is the sh*t and you won't have to rely on someone else's opinion.

I have to disagree with this. I owned a klr 650 2008 and i was im a forum for this specific bike. On paper, it seems like a very good bike for me. A lot of reviewers said that it was a great bike for the price. What a mistake i made when purchasing that oil burner and shaker. I'm not that king of guy who tell that my bike is the better one. It's a very personnal choice. And over the years, my taste and needs change a bit.
Having said that, i didn't test ride the Suzuk. And i don't know what kind of rides you do. So, who am i to say wich is the better bike for you.  I have to say that i prefer a twin over a 4 cylinder.

The best advice is: go test ride them both. Take the one that is better for you. What we can tell you here is that the FZ is very light and nimble, the amount of torque make this bike more fun than my previous FZ6 (100 hp). I bet that the FZ has more caracter than the GSX-S750.

Are we seriously discussing which bike is better, the GSX-S750 or the FZ-07.  I mean, on this forum? crazy.gif

It really is kinda pointless to see how the people on here would view other naked bikes. All opinions will be biased. Here's my take on the s750... It's a very smooth bike. Throttle comes on gently as to not throw you off the seat. Suspension even seemed a bit more tamed than the 07. The seat is way more comfortable than the 07. The s750 has shetty 1980s brakes. Though the engine supposedly produces 30 more hp than the 07, I never felt it during my rides. It uses an outdated (detuned) GSXR-750 motor from like 2005. Seems to me that Suzuki had a bunch of leftover motors, slapped it on an upright naked bike, and is trying to market it as the new streetfighter that'll go up against an FZ-09. The exhaust is fairly quiet but a stock 07 exhaust will make you feel like you're riding an electric bike. So if you want something calm and comfortable for those Sunday morning strolls, the s750 might just be for you. But if you want to terrorize the streets with a wild beast that has less hp, less weight, and less dollar signs on the price tag, then the FZ-07 is for you.

Btw, my buddy who is trading his s750 in this weekend compared his bike to mine with these word and I do quote... "I'm riding My Little Pony while you're on a f*cking wild bronco!"

In the end, it's your choice cause it's your money and it's definitely how you ride but as long as you ride, you're ok by me no matter what bike you ride.

I'll chime in as a hopefully neutral view on this since I don't even have a bike right now but the FZ-07 and the GSX750 are my top contenders for my first new bike. I'm a naked bike lover and after having a 2003 and 2004 Kawasaki Z1000 that was a blast to ride but murder on the butt after an hour even with a custom gel seat and a Corbin seat hopefully what I say hits a little. I got to test ride the FZ-07 when I went home for a month for my short tour here in Spain. All I have been doing is drooling for a FZ-07 and watching the forums daily. I test rode a red FZ and loved the five mile quick test ride I got the dealer to agree too. I realize now it wasn't long enough or fast enough to truly appreciate if it's what I want. In the looks department it's dead on I love it but physical body size for me being 6' and 215 lbs my knees hit right at the tank line and that part made me feel like it was just a tad on the small side. I only got the bike up to 50mph so I never got to see how it does going freeway speed and I never got into the torque as I was in traffic on a side road. I got to sit on a GSX750 here in Spain or also known as the GSR750. Size wise it felt perfect and fit great for my legs. I've been riding for 20 years so I'm over the whole which bike is faster and quick thing. For me it's all about looks which I have loved the GSX750 since four years ago when it came out. I would like the torque part of the FZ and the sound of the twin I love that SC Project exhaust sound! I've been off a bike now for 2.5 years so just getting a bike is going to be a hoot for me. I don't care for the ugly swingarm and dated wheels but after sitting on a clean white GSR750 I fell in love with it and right away I could look past the bad parts. I don't care about ABS so that's no biggie. Also no stalling issue on the GSX. I still am almost 50/50 on which bike to get but right now due to the fit of the GSX I'm leaning more toward that. I don't care for the $1,000 more price tag than the Fz-07 but it does win in the cheaper exhaust options as it does not require a full exhaust upgrade since the stock exhaust is not all welded together. If I could have both bikes I would but I can't so it's still up in the air for me but fit wise I know the GSX is spot on for me and power wise only thing I care about is as long as you can pass cars on the freeway no problem doing 75-80mph and still have plenty of power left I'm good. I like how for $100 you can swap the colors on the FZ-07 that is a huge selling point along with the $26 rear panels which if I got one I'd buy three sets of panels so I could have white, red, and a grey set. I guess in the end for me it's more of a comfort thing more than it is power or looks since both bikes have plenty more than I'll ever need.

Great information Belleau1977. The kind of information that can help a buyer. The reason i'm here into this forum is to get some objective information. It help also for choosing equipment and gear. I understand that, we, all have our reasons to join a forum. That's the beauty of it, right? ;)

cgr45 just wanted to know how the 2 bikes compare to each other.

Thank you!!!!  You pretty much read my mind. I test rode the Suzuki. Found it to be extremely smooth. It doesn't feel like it has 95whp due to it's power delivery. But like you said. The thing that attracts me to it the way it fit me. It was very comfortable and I could see myself riding for hours without any issues. It felt perfect. I've sat on the 7 many times. And just like you I feel that I might be a bit too big for it. Not sure how my knees would feel after and hour. As far as looks go. I give a very slight edge to the Suzuki. But the 7 is no ugly duckling. That black/blue combo is to die for. As far as power goes. If I can maintain 80-85mph with no problem and still have power left to pass cars and trucks I'm good. Decisions. Decisions.

@cgr45 and @belleau1977 like I (and others) have said before, of course you should ride both before you decide because specs alone won't make the decision for you -- everyone is different and everyone has different needs and opinions and a different feel for what is "right" for them.

That being said, your discussion about ergonomics led me over to the cycle ergos site (http://cycle-ergo.com/) where I plugged in a 6' rider on both the GSX-S and the FZ.  Here is what I found:

[span]And a MT-07 here in Spain from last summer when I first came here. If I look like an elephant on a monkey let me know. Notice my knee position on both bikes this is why I think the GSX750 might be the better bike for me even though the ergonomics say it's more of a forward leaning bike it just feels better. I still love them both though so nothing is set in stone yet.

You look to have your toes pointed down on both bikes. If you had your foot on the pegs in a position that you would ride in to operate the shifter and rear brake it would bring your knee position down.

Yeah it's tough getting that riding pose on a sitting bike so that plays a part in how I look also. I wear boots when I ride so the shoes thing doesn't help much. I love the price of the FZ-07 over the GSX but in the end I have to go with what fits me better. Sucks if I end up going with the GSX I know it's already been said it won't be near as cool for aftermarket parts like the FZ-07 but as it sits I really like it very much and there is no doubt it fits me better on my leg position. Both bikes have plenty of power and after owning two Z1000's I know the GSX will be similar in that inline four feel of power and take off. Not quite as powerful as the Z1000 but good enough. I started out in life on a 1982 Yamaha Maxim 550 so anything I get will always be way better. Main thing is as long as I'm on any bike I'll be happy especially after a 2.5 year hiatus. I just called Westfield Powersports in Indianapolis and they can do a GSX750 out the door tagged and all for around $8,100.
