I was thinking about that too. Will it not fit on the frame just behind the pax foot peg mounts?

It might fit, I haven't ordered the bar mount helmet lock yet , so I am not sure.  I am really waiting for the rear rack to come in that I ordered. I was planning on mounting something to that (on the underside)

I seriously feel like Yamaha forgot about putting a helmet lock, and just through in this cable and made up a way to attach it. This is the stupidest method of locking a helmet I've ever seen. It's probably my biggest complaint about my fz

Agreed. I probably will just get a bike lock and run the wire through the face shield of my helmet and the sleeve of my jacket and lock it to the back wheel. That way I can leave my jacket at my bike too.

Heres what I do. My helmet doesn't have a d-ring, never found it secure anyhow as you can just cut the strap with just about anything, so I use a gun trigger lock around my handlebars. You can also use it around your frame, rear pegs, etc. Pretty much anywhere with a secure, not easily removed part. It's not a thief proof solution but show me one that is, it will deter casual thieves well enough though. You run the cable through the visor opening so there is less chance of someone just cutting your chin strap.

You can pick one up for around $10 or a two pack for $15.

Hope this helps a few of you guys out.

Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up.

I use a gun lock you can pretty much use anywhere on the bike even lock your jacket,if you own a gun you must have one, some police stations hand them out for free also.

I bought a cable lock, and it allows me to lock both the helmet and my jacket to the front/back wheel
I usually carry my jacket into work but it's becomeing a pain in the ass. Could you possibly post a pic of your setup?

Not sure how well this will show up, but I took this pic when I went hiking. I have the cable wrapped around the top of the wheel, plus thru the face of the helmet and the arm of my jacket. I use it when it's nice out and allows me to not have to carry all of that around. I have also wrapped it around the fork, and hung my helmet off the throttle side grip, and my jacket over the top of that. I bought a cable you would use to lock up your bicycle, I think it was $9.99 at Walmart

Going through the jacket arm is a smart move, might have to try that later on at work.

Coming from the CBR, that too came with a cable. I did use a gun lock to secure the helmet to the cable.

But these days, I don't feel comfortable keeping my gear on my bike. Just heard too many stories of cables getting cut and gear getting stolen.

LIKE WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO STEAL SOMEONE'S USED GEAR?! Especially helmets…. SMH.

You bought a $6999 motorcycle.  Yamaha didn't forget anything, they built a great little bike for just a little coin. :)

Good point. It is hard to complain about a few "missing" items when we got so much bike for our money.

That's actually a great idea! You buy one of those signs and hang it where you (regularly) park your bike. Nobody is going to steal the bike OR the sign. :)

It just seems like to add a little hook under the passenger seat like you see on a Ninja 250, and every other sport bike, would cost virtually nothing. [a style=height:20px;width:40px;min-height:20px;min-width:40px;opacity:0.85;border:none;line-height:0;background-image:url(data:image/png;" href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/][/a][a style=height:20px;width:40px;min-height:20px;min-width:40px;opacity:0.85;border:none;line-height:0;background-image:url(data:image/png;" href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/][/a]

Guest smyles

Thanks for all of the insight. I am looking into getting a cable soon for my bike. I will post my results. Thinking about going to a hardware store after work and seeing about throwing something together.

It seems that Yamaha has a standard helmet lock for their domestic bikes.

If you google the part numbers in the picture they show up being used on other Yamaha bikes too. (You will need 61, 62 and 63)

I'm not sure if you can calibrate your key to use the lock.
