Global Moderator Guru Posted July 19, 2014 Global Moderator Share Posted July 19, 2014 Yamaha thinks a 'helmet holding cable' is a good alternative to a helmet lock. That's what you get when buying a budget bike. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/helmet.png
MeanMug
Ive been looking at the bolt on variety http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/2796/i/motion-pro-helmet-lock?WT.ac=SLIsearch Other than the handle bar, I can't find a place for them...Any ideas? Global Moderator mjh937 Posted July 19, 2014 Global Moderator Share Posted July 19, 2014 I was thinking about that too. Will it not fit on the frame just behind the pax foot peg mounts?
MeanMug
It might fit, I haven't ordered the bar mount helmet lock yet , so I am not sure. I am really waiting for the rear rack to come in that I ordered. I was planning on mounting something to that (on the underside) RRokay Raggie

I'd be interested in a helmet lock too, let me know if anyone finds anything that'll work.
arfz07
I bought a combination d ring helmet lock and just hook it next to the passengers begs on the non exhaust side... works great for me but you wouldnt be able to carry a share helmet there. HatGuysFriend
I seriously feel like Yamaha forgot about putting a helmet lock, and just through in this cable and made up a way to attach it. This is the stupidest method of locking a helmet I've ever seen. I probably will just get a bike lock and run the wire through the face shield of my helmet and the sleeve of my jacket and lock it to the back wheel. That way I can leave my jacket at my bike too. Premium Member V8titanpwr Posted September 19, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted September 19, 2014 Heres what I do. My helmet doesn't have a d-ring, never found it secure anyhow as you can just cut the strap with just about anything, so I use a gun trigger lock around my handlebars. You can also use it around your frame, rear pegs, etc. Pretty much anywhere with a secure, not easily removed part. It's not a thief proof solution but show me one that is, it will deter casual thieves well enough though. You run the cable through the visor opening so there is less chance of someone just cutting your chin strap. You can pick one up for around $10 or a two pack for $15. http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Helmet-Lock-Master-99/dp/B002O006VM Hope this helps a few of you guys out. Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up.
stefano225
I use a gun lock you can pretty much use anywhere on the bike even lock your jacket,if you own a gun you must have one, some police stations hand them out for free also.

Could you possibly post a pic of your setup? Not sure how well this will show up, but I took this pic when I went hiking. I have the cable wrapped around the top of the wheel, plus thru the face of the helmet and the arm of my jacket. I use it when it's nice out and allows me to not have to carry all of that around. I have also wrapped it around the fork, and hung my helmet off the throttle side grip, and my jacket over the top of that. I bought a cable you would use to lock up your bicycle, I think it was $9.99 at Walmart

Premium Member motomeek Posted September 25, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted September 25, 2014 Coming from the CBR, that too came with a cable. I did use a gun lock to secure the helmet to the cable. But these days, I don't feel comfortable keeping my gear on my bike. Just heard too many stories of cables getting cut and gear getting stolen. LIKE WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO STEAL SOMEONE'S USED GEAR?! Especially helmets…. SMH. Instagram: @meekmade | You don't need to flat foot a bike to ride it. Guest smyles
Thanks for all of the insight. I am looking into getting a cable soon for my bike. I will post my results. Global Moderator Guru Posted October 1, 2014 Global Moderator Share Posted October 1, 2014 It seems that Yamaha has a standard helmet lock for their domestic bikes. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33459059/lock.jpg If you google the part numbers in the picture they show up being used on other Yamaha bikes too. (You will need 61, 62 and 63) I'm not sure if you can calibrate your key to use the lock.
