I'd love to see Rossi qualifying better -- how many times does he have to start 8, 9 or 10 to finish on the podium?

@aeisan thanks for asking...it was AWESOME!!!

I'm gonna make a new thread to share my experience...need to download all my pics and vids tho first, lol.

Don't worry, it won't take me months (as is the case with my track day vids), because I'm not gonna be doing a bunch of custom editing on these.  I want you guys to see whet I saw, unaltered :)

But yeah, overall it was a fantastic experience.  Yamaha treated us right.  I'm a huge Yamaha fan as it is, but I have a whole new level of respect for this company now.

I look forward to sharing the experience with everyone :)

The American coverage of this weekends race was so poor. I may purchase the pass next season assuming it'll give me the international coverage team.

If you get the Video Pass from MotoGP.com you get the guys I mentioned a few posts ago (back in July)...
Do you guys that watch it on TV have Nick Harris and Matt Birt as the commentators? Or does each channel have their own? Those guys along with Dylan Grey in the pits do a pretty decent job with the coverage. Matt Birt is especially good at the analysis.

I, for one, enjoy their coverage and commentary.  You can also switch to the "ambient" camera and you get basically the same video feed but with no commentary, only ambient sounds (which can be quite nice, very much like being at the track - only quieter ha).

Oh, one other thing... I don't recommend paying extra for the multi-cast.

Basically it lets you view up to 4 different video feeds at once on your screen (with a good choice of how to configure them). I paid for it, thinking it would be really cool to have the different angles all at once, like the helicopter feed and the stats screen) but in reality I seldom use it. I find the normal commentary feed to be adequate and all I ever really watch.

There's nothing wrong with it - it completely works as advertised. just don't use it even though I paid for it.

The only thing left to figure out is whether or not it's worth the price of admission, we purchase Sunday ticket and NBA League Pass already so I feel like maybe I should choose one or the other. However, there's only so many commercials I can take during a live racing event. I can't recall how many passes were missed because the coverage was on commercial break.

I had never really thought of that. Now that I do think of it - I really, really like the fact that once the green flag drops there is no break in coverage until after the podium ceremony.

Not trying to sell the package haha, but one thing I like is that it goes from November 1 through October 31, meaning you get all the coverage of practice/test sessions in the off season too. Not that those are too exciting, but if you are a true fan it's good to point out the value does extend beyond the actual race season. It comes out to just under $10/month too if you do the math.

I don't pay for any other TV service, i.e. cable or satellite. I pay for MotoGP, Netflix, HBO (for 1-2 months, only for GoT) and just recently SlingTV that adds ESPN and ESPN2 (plus 10 other channels, some of which I watch but some I don't). So I pay about $40 + $15 when I have HBO turned on. Not a bad deal really, for what I get. Yeah it's only a little bit more for a basic cable package, but basic cable doesn't give me MotoGP and Netflix. Plus, it's all month-to-month. So had it not been almost college football season, I've cut off Sling because I wouldn't really need ESPN.

So,

Not sure if you guys watch the British GP, but it was awesome! I DVR'd it, only to watch it with 7 laps to go because it was a delayed start due to weather, and although it was broadcast all the way to the end, my DVR was only set up to record the original time slot....ARRGH!!!

I immediately got online and bought the Video Pass on the MotoGP website, and to my surprise it was 50% off! I did the normal view for the rest of the year, vs the multi-view that I probably wouldn't benefit from anyway.

Watch ed the end of the race, and all the post race interviews that you don't normally get to see in the US broadcasts...

The interview with Danilo Petrucci was just incredible. Normally these post race press deals are a little dry but in this one, where it was Petrucci's first time ever on the podium, he had everyone actually laughing and smiling the whole time. Hell, the Video Pass, for me at least, paid for itself right there :)

Thanks @aeisan for suggesting it!

Ha! Glad you like it, Paulie! It really is a great way to watch the whole weekend's worth of events. I need to go back and watch the press conference. I always forget to watch those, but enjoy them every time I do. It's funny... My buddy's DVR did the same thing; he didn't get to see the final 5-6 laps.

If you have time, go back to watch the press conference after Assen (DutchGP) haha, where Rossi and MM bumped in the final chicane and Rossi still won. Was great hearing their differing perspective on the wild finish.

I paid for the multi-cast this year, and tried it out for a few races, but find the main feed to be more than adequate. They do a good job showing highlights/replays at the appropriate time to see a helicopter or other angle.

As for the British GP... I thought we were going to be in for a CRAZY start, but since all riders came into the pits, they called it a regular grid start.

Petrucci had the race of his life. Good for him. Sorry to see he's got to deal with Redding next year as a teammate. I'm not a Redding fan.

I laughed, with a touch of guilt, when they said Miller went off on lap 1. Poor Jack always seems to wreck. Then found out it was not him, only to see him wreck his teammate out later on. Ha... Poor Jack.

Lorenzo needs to drop HJC or whoever is responsible for his visor. 2nd race this year where he finished back in ~6th or so because of a foggy visor. As tight as the championship race is, those points are crucial.

Paulie, I learned from the Austin GP to extend recording by 2.5 hours, but when there's a will there's a way! Glad you got it sorted.

Great race, couple good story lines.

Very disappointed in the races the past month, Marquez made this more of a soap opera than an actual sport, and did everything he could to get under Rossi's skin, and it worked. Then to top it off, protecting Lorenzo from Pedrosa...wow is all I can say.

WHAT!!!!!
Phillip Island may be THE greatest race I have ever seen. EVER. And I have ben watching motorcycle racing a long time. No protecting going on there.
Malayasia was a disaster for everyone. Rossi was hot headed and stupid. Marquez was pesky and bloody annoying. In the end they both paid the price for playing around instead of racing.
The last race was good but not great. Lorenzo did his boring " get off the front and stay there". Please no ridiculous comments about Rossi ultimately catching Jorge. Lorenzo's time were pretty consistantly faster than Rossi for pretty much the whole race. I didn't see any Marquez protecting going on. Pedrosa rode a seriously great race and looks like his big anchor ( his forearm is truely behind him consistantly). But he stuffed his passing chance ( Marquez had nothing to do with that). Lorenzo deserved to win . Boringly, but deservedly.
Next year looms large. More even field of motorcycles. Yamaha and Honda will be pointy end as usual but Suzuki and Ducati look like both being contenders . Both Espargaro and Vinalis are great riders not just good ones. If Suzuki make the bike genuinely competitive great show awaits. And KTM fires up. They don't usually do things by halves...

This year when, Rossi @ 36 fully upped his up game seemed faster than ever, I was happy to se him going that well. The likes MM, coming back to defend his title, didn't look to good. The same MM, that stormed into MOTOGP and made it look easy to be champ. This season had many fast riders for MM to deal with, DP, VR, JL, and the Ducati's Plus other honda and Yamahas. I rooted for a lot of people, never a dull race, How bought the time their so many passes on the last lap!!! It was like MOTO3!! With as many season's, VR has gone through, and even being in better condition than ever, I'm shocked he let the pressure get him, his game is about podiums, not pole position

I believe the season ended in a sham, and the MotoGP.com announcers going on and on about how awesomely fantastic the last race was going to be and how it was as it happened turned me off.

In Sepang, Marquez was intentionally hounding Rossi to impede his race pace.
Rossi gave him a gesture to cut the crap, Marquez refused it, so Rossi ran him wide.
Boo f'in hoo - the kid deserved it.
Marquez crashing was his own fault because he saw red and turned into Rossi, hitting his front brake lever.
How clever.

Valencia was a con job and a half.
Marquez riding on Lorenzo's rear wheel the whole time, but never an attempt to pass.
That is, until Pedrosa passed Marquez, where then Marquez suddenly got aggressive and puts Pedrosa back into third place.

I feel ripped-off.

I hope MM has a most rotten 2016. That punk was never taught any manners back in Moto3/2 where he should have been knocked down a few times for being an ass.

Sad way for an amazing season to end, esp Sepang...Marquez slams into Rossi all season (remember Assen?), Rossi has a gutfull and signals "enough" but Marquez goes again and gets gently escorted from the track. Marquez could have put on the brakes, could have remounted but instead heads off to the pits like a whiney little biatch.
Credit to Lorenzo, kudos to Rossi but jeez...Marquez, I lost a lot of respect for you this season.

Not a Rossi lover...not a Rossi hater. Marquez was pissing off Rossi...yes. Rossi KICKED Marquez. It was as plain as day on the broadcast from behind and that shot was NEVER repeated. You can see his leg coming back in the side view, but not the kick. THAT is bad sportmanship...full stop. A penalty for the whole saga is a difficult thing. Marquez was annoying Rossi deliberately, but Rossi did the wrong thing...full stop. Race direction made a reasonably wise decision in the circumstances. I haven't a clue what I would have decided as a penalty if I had been the commissaire. Overall a saga that MotoGP didn't need when the series had been so good. The only person who broke the rules was Rossi. He paid the penalty. All is not fair in love and MotoGP, there are very strict rules. Maybe you would have done the same thing as Rossi. You would have been penalized as well. Rossi is not god ( nor any other deity) and has been around long enough to know better.
Remember we have Marquez to partially thank for Rossi's return to form. It was the pipsqueak's dominant dirt track sliding style ( like Casey Stoner's) that finally convinced Rossi to get off his butt, build a dirt track at his ranch and practice all offseason going sideways. If he had done it BEFORE he went to Ducati he MIGHT have done a bit better as well. 2015 comes and Rossi now rides COMPLETELY differently....and faster.
Lorenzo won because he WAS faster. Pretty much all race. Rossi wasn't going to catch him and even if Rossi had passed everyone else he still would not have been world champ. He would have been second because of wins ratio.
On an different note have a look at (Suzuki) Esparago and Vinales comparative times for the tests. 2016 looks more and more interesting.

Marquez was obviously intentionally f'ing around with Rossi.
Rossi signaled him to knock it off.
He didn't.
I believe that a lot of riders would have done something similar to what Rossi did to make the guy stop.

I do not believe Rossi kicked him, either.
Marquez ran into Rossi.

Rossi got screwed. I'm sorry but after watching it 50-60 times, he got screwed.

And, this is Rossi. the greatest Moto GP rider ever.

It would be like calling Micheal Jordon for walking while taking the game winning shot of the championship series. That never happened and neither should have this bullshet.

I'm happy for Lorenzo though.

Greg your statement about rossi upping his game on slick surface, is what got him in the hunt. Live race reaction, from stoner was, they used to black flag for that . I have it recorded, and you are right, they replayed it all angles, the leg moves right out, rossi claims he was defending mm being so close
