Premium Member tino206 Posted April 6, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted April 6, 2015 Sorry to ask this newbie question..what is the purpose of a bellypan?
vodapas
@tino206 Strictly an appearance modification. They serve no purpose other than to cover the exposed portion of the exhaust naked bikes have.

Premium Member snowdriftless Posted April 6, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted April 6, 2015 Sorry to ask this newbie question..what is the purpose of a bellypan? Strictly an appearance modification. They serve no purpose other than to cover the exposed portion of the exhaust naked bikes have. Belly pans were originally used on race bikes to prevent leaking oil from being spilled on race tracks (Read: Norton Commando). That being said now that modern motorcycles have very few oil leaking problems their use is just for appearance. Also since most "bellypans" are two piece affairs and don't have any way of containing an oil leak from under the engine they aren't much of a "Pan" that they used to be. They are often also called "Chin Spoilers". I don't know how much down force they create so they are not much spoiler either. P1: Vice? I have no vice, I'm as pure as the driven snow! P2: Yeah but you've been drifting All the gear all the time!
