Returning…for the second time!

How’s it going everyone!?

So, I’ve been a forum member since something like May, 2014 when I picked up my first 2015 FZ-07.

I owned that one until September or so of 2015 when I had to trade it in due to insurance almost doubling after a move to a new state.

In March the next year (2016) I got a Honda Grom as they were super inexpensive. Had it for 9 days as on a ride to work when I was at a red light a Jeep driver too busy texting rear ended me at 50 mph and put me in a coma for 2-3 weeks. Took 9 months before I was able to get back on a motorcycle.

Then after about a year and 8 months (and a move back to New Jersey) I bought my last FZ-07. A red 2017 brand new. Rode the hell out of it and put ~28,600 miles on it from November 2017 to December 2019 when I traded it in for my current bike.

So, I currently have a 2019 Super Ténéré with currently ~33,750 miles. I miss the size and ride of the FZ. So, last week I decided to look into trading my Ténéré in for a new MT-07.

Today I got a return call from a dealer with a blue 2022 and they are giving me what I was expecting for trade in on my Ténéré. I’m going to be getting more info from them tomorrow and possibly doing the deal on Saturday.

So, here’s a little update from me.

Now, my question:

Other than the wider bar and LED headlight. Has anything else changed with the MT for 2022 vs. my 2015 & 2017 FZs? Are they still super reliable and run similarly or better?

Has anyone else upgraded from an FZ-07 to an MT-07? What are your experiences?

Thank you everyone and hope to be back on soon!

Oh! Just came to mind, I have a 58L Givi top case on my Ténéré. Does anyone here have one on their FZ/MT?

Glad you're back!!! I had similar experience on my GROM in 2018. I was more fortunate than you were... I got rear ended by a "distracted driver" while riding to the dealer to buy the oil for my first oil change. My GROM was totaled with 444 miles on it!!! I was wearing good gear, and got checked out at a local hospital. Granted, this was 5 months after I had titanium hardware installed in my neck.... I got launched head first into the back end of the SUV that was  stopped at the light in front of me. I was REALLY lucky-

To answer your question about what has changed from the FZ to the MT..... The motor/drivetrain is unchanged 😎. I heard they upgraded the rear shock as well. I have ZERO experience with the new shock, but have heard it's "marginally" better? When Yamaha went to the "MT", they made ABS a standard feature. While I hate to say it, I was "saved" by my ABS on a different bike, during an off-track excursion. I'm not a fan of the Yamaha ABS system on their "low(er)-end" bikes. It's a bit clunky/intrusive (in my opinion). I ordered a MT-03 as soon as they became available.... After I found out that ABS was standard, I bought a carry-over/non-ABS R3 instead.

That being said- for most riders, the ABS will be just fine. I'm long-time track day guy, and just got my race license (@53 years old) 😎. My needs are not the same as your needs. Enjoy your new ride, and keep us updated on your thoughts on the new MT-07.

I just read your post... Are you sure the exhaust/CAT got updated??? I would think that would be REALLY expensive for Yamaha. As I'm typing this, I'm realizing that the EURO5 emissions are coming. I'd still be interested to hear if it did get changed though-

I thought I saw/heard in a YouTube video that it’s a second CAT for Euro 5 compliance?

I hope not 🙄.... This emissions $hit is getting out of control!!! I've been a rider for about 45 years.... I will stop riding before I EVER buy an electric motorcycle 😆-

The deed was done, I am the new first owner of a 2022 MT-07!

I’ll be creating another mileage/service records post soon.

Welcome back! I did not ride the FZ, I have the MT which has the suspension improvements. A member talked about how it is much better (see thread below). Supposedly, the front is also stiffer as well. The 2018+ model has adjustable rebound damping on the rear. I was an idiot and never checked until last week.
