I do it on all my bikes basically when you disconnect a post it's ridiculously impossible to get the bottom lock nut to catch again or tighten sometimes and they usually drop out the sides and get lost forever too lol.

I just pull the battery  and cut a piece of rubber hose  just enough to press the lock nut against the top.  Now it can't move, tightens with ease, and won't get lost.  Also prevents loosening from vibrations which the negative has worked its way loose on a vtwin cruiser I had once and cut power at 55mph...... so I never chance it anymore.

Pic is from a different bike but you get the idea. On that battery I just used a piece of Amp wire rubber.  On this battery I used some left over car rubber hose. Just needs to be enough to press the lock nut against the top.

Or a piece of foam. I learned this on another site, after finding that only the original bolts would reach the nut. Annoying at the time.

Installed:

Amazon black levers, love the look and feel not sure I like the design. Brake actuator isn't as deep as oem.

Silicone license plate fram make it look cleaner

Cleaned up the wiring with some wire loom.

Installed an oem windscreen that I got on ebay for much cheaper then the dealer so gave it shot. It looks good, but don't like that I have to remove the triple bolts to take it off.  I will run it for awhile and see how I like it.

I use a lock and or toothed washer and it never came loose. I like your idea as well in conjunction with the washer bit!
