Simple air prefilter that's not retarded

Add an easy access prefilter to your aftermarket airfilter, to make it go farther between washes. Pop the seat, pull off the prefilter , wash in water, shake, and back on bike. Lot easier than undressing to get at the airbox. 

Parts: K&N precharger type prefilter.

EDIT - start here do this

Take the gear tie, and make it into a loop that will fit inside the prefilter bag, and put the gear tie inside the prefilter bag.

 

Put the prefilter bag over the snorkle bellmouth, and secure with a zip tie. Then "adjust" the gear tie inside the bag, to hold the prefilter open (so it's not stretched tight against the snorkel intake mouth).

You are done.

That prefilter bag is a sheer material, it captures a lot of (bigger) stuff. Don't oil the prefilter.

 

Downside to this easy access is you have to put the snorkel back in the airbox. Otherwise, got to pull the bodywork, and I'm not going to be doing that every month to clean the K&N in my airbox. I've got a flash for Yoshimura pipe with snorkel pulled, I can't tell the difference with the snorkle back on the airbox. YMMV

6K miles results check of prefilter & K&N. The prefilter is always dirty, every time I pop the seat and check. I slap it on my pant leg to get the dirt off the outside, and put it back on.

 

Here's the K&N, it looks like I've never used it...
