Fuel Tank Removal

Hey, I need to remove my fuel tank in order to access the auxiliary cable. 

I'm through with the fishing method it doesn't work for me. The space is too small and my hands are too big.

IDK which bolts do I remove, when I disconnect the fuel lines will they leak a few drops of fuel? Will disconnecting them allow air in the system?

Take the plastics off.

Pull the long cross bolt from across the front end of the tank, at the frame-headstock juncture.

Take the two small bolts out from the back corners of the tank that connect it to the frame near the airbox lid.

Unclip the air temp sending unit from the right front of the tank.

Lift the tank and unsnap the main fuel line from the fuel pump, no fuel will leak. (Maybe a drop) I remove the slide-over cover and discard it. Then you simply pinch the opposing side tabs together and pop it off.

Unclip the electrical connector under the tank.

There are a couple vent lines that can be pulled out, up or off w/o any leaking.

You're not going to have any mysterious problems surface due to messing with this stuff.

I'll put up a pic or two in a bit if needed.

1. 4" cross bolt 

2. 2-8mm bolts from each side of of rear of tank

3. Electrical connector

4. Fuel line

That's a roll of duct tape holding the tank up for visual. Rip that red plastic safety cover off the fuel line and shove it up some lawyers a.., never mind.

I don't advocate any deviation from Yamaha's instructions but all of my vent hoses fell off, permanently. (They just route shet to the ground which gravity see's to anyway)

good to know I'm not the only one who hates that orange slide over cover.  

helps to start with as close to empty tank possible.
