Julian
Does anyone know the exact name or part number of this black plastic strip? Mine has scratches deep and shallow from the previous owner, which is annoying on an otherwise impecable looking bike. My questions: Can it be buffed with finer and finer grit or that won't work on plastic? Can it be easily removed and what's underneath? If it's the slick gray tank it might look much better. Are there aftermarket replacements that would look better, maybe carbon fiber? Before someone suggests adhesive pads, I don't think that would look good or make sense on top of the black plastic. Triple Jim
Oh, I didn't know you were talking about a 2021, sorry. Maybe phone them and see if they have it available.
Premium Member Evill_Ed Posted August 4, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted August 4, 2021 Sanding is not a good option because of the texture, Unless you do the whole part uniformly to a smooth finish. If you heat the part with a heat gun, moving slowly back and forth across the piece, it will darken the light scratch areas and make them less noticeable. D.A. I believe that’s the name of the dark gray 2021 MT-07 with orange wheels. If so, it’s model code MT07MGY. Partzilla doesn’t have the 2021 MT-07 parts fiche listed online yet but a few other dealers do, like Ron Ayers in North Carolina, USA. If Ron Ayers can get it, any other OEM parts dealer probably can too. The part number you need is BAT-2171A-00-00. It is super-cheap at $18.14 USD. The part is called COVER, TOP. It’s line item #47 on this page: 2021 Yamaha MT07 (MT07MGY) Fuel Tank 2 | Ron Ayers Shop online for OEM Fuel Tank 2 parts that fit your 2021 Yamaha MT07...
