Awesome. In a PM you confirmed it was almost a whole inch off initially.

What do you think the main remedy was?

I would be so tempted to put old boneyard stock sprockets and chain on that bike, align the sprockets, mark some fresh reference points on the swingarm. So many variables, and installed by a prior owner.

Another thing I did which may've helped a smidgen is I put a .050" washer on the rear axle between the swing arm and the rear brake mount. The slop in the swing arm was already there and I had the washer, so what the heck.

 

Wonder if there are a few 520 conversions out there with sprockets misaligned!??

I doubt it.   Just make sure the writing is on the outside of the sprocket and you "should" be good.  And to be 100% sure, match shoulder depth with stock sprocket.
