Off season Covid shenanigans

Now I'm at BIR for a Zars track day Tuesday and Wednesday. Split time deal with Attack Yamaha and Westby Racing in the house.

Attack has a new R7 in the truck with some of their parts on it. I'm trying my best to behave and maybe get a run on it after Jake Gagne and Josh Herrin are done hoonin around on it. Of course they have their respective race bikes here as well.

Gonna be some fun.

Oh and then we're here for a club race Fri thru Sunday. I should find a job.

Nah.

Thor was warned these pics could be replaced with identical ones with his purse on the bars if he failed to perform. Just sayin.

There are several MotoAmerica Twins Cup FZ07R's here too.

Edit: He earned these pics. Haulin the mail.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got the suspension back and put on the bike. Went through the bearings and bushings in the linkage.

And I've got the bodywork back from my neighbor, the 'Painter'. Looks good. Same white paint I shot Shawn's V2 with. After a fair amount of fussing around I got it fitting well enough mount it up.

Then mix and match some leftover graphics from other bikes.

But this, this is not how you fix anything but a hockey stick!

IMG_20210624_185734637.thumb.jpg.760f7caaafb7013594fa8eb4fdea4319.jpg

There was a wad of friction (hockey) tape in/under the throttle assembly presumably to 'fix' something before it got ratty and gummed up everything making for a death machine.

Seriously folks, if you don't know WTH you're doing then get help. There is NO place on a motor bike for hockey tape! Now I have to order a throttle tube, adds another week or two to the build. 😡

Got the chain and sprockets on too. ERV7, new ERV3 upgrade. I'm skeptical, it looks cheaper in both materials and workmanship than the original. Same high price tho.

Been a fun last few days in the shop.

The ERV7 is lighter than the ERV3 I think...perhaps that is part of the issue in that they would have had to use less material so it looks less substantial? Maybe they found that the ERV3 was under-spec'd on paper so the ERV7 meets the same specs but they could do it with less materials.

What about it? This bike has been getting it's ass kicked around race tracks for 22 years. It's current shape is an amalgam of all those who shared it's history. Much of it's appeal is it's many mysteries and scars which give it character and create it's story. The previous owner is but a tile in this bikes mosaic as he ran it the way he found it for a year before I got holt of it. I hope to return it to it's once majestic place as arguably the best middleweight sport bike of all time.

That engine cover is no longer available from Yamaha (damnit). It looks to be a solid repair but if it gives me trouble I'll pull that cover and weld it up instead of the old trackside J.B. weld repair.

This bike and I are going to have another crack at going fast before we end up in the bone pile.

And btw I'm calling it dun.
