djtanco Posted June 24, 2020 Share Posted June 24, 2020 (edited) Hi everyone, I'm new to building/customizing but I thought I would show what an amateur could get done on a budget with very little tools or workspace. Cosmetics will come first as it seems to be more inexpensive but eventually will upgrade the front suspension (forks, oil, springs), rear suspension (shock), tires (dual sport), exhaust, tune/ECU flash, skid plate, brake lines/pads, and generally removing weight. Below is the current progress I've made turning a stock 2017 FZ07 into a 90/10 on road off road scrambler. djtanco Posted June 24, 2020 Author Share Posted June 24, 2020 (edited) Cleaned up the front by adding TST industries turn signals, getting rid of the stock mirrors, LED headlight bulb, tinted headlight film, and blacking out the levers (right is stock and left is vortex). djtanco Posted June 24, 2020 Author Share Posted June 24, 2020 For the first iteration of this scrambler build I removed the entire OEM headlight unit and replaced it with about $100 worth of parts from amazon (headlight, housing, brackets). djtanco Posted June 24, 2020 Author Share Posted June 24, 2020 I could tell that the front end still had some empty space to fill. The headlight cables were a mess. While this headlight was capable of integrated turn signals (the two white semi-circles), I didn't want to put my old TST turn signals to waste as I quite liked the white running light feature. So after some measuring, sketches, and 3D modeling I came up with a turn signal adapter, headlight cable cover, and radiator guards all to be printed from a 3D printer using PLA plastic. While I realize this material will not hold up forever, I figured keeping it out of the sun and some clear coat would prolong its deterioration until I can print it with more durable material. Filed down the mirrors to give them a more 90 angle look, installed a Ram mount, and added a front grill which needed some home depot parts to work. I guess the key is using sandpaper to sand down the pieces so the paint actually sticks. Mine probably won't hold forever since it was a quick job.
