bugsinteeth
why is there nobody building a decent gas tank for these things ? get rid of the plastic fairing crap and build a plastic-nylon tank like they do for off road ? we need one...
Premium Member blackout Posted October 17, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted October 17, 2019 Yup. Tank looks so small once plastics are removed from it. Craig Mapstone Upstate New York
1tondriver
I agree it would be nice to have at least 5 gallons although I don’t do any real non stop long distance rides.

bugsinteeth
yep, and the tank size is probably one of the reasons holding this bike back.....it's got nuff power, and comfort if "Fixed", so why not longer trips - touring? tank size has a lot to do with that I think.... mayhap some outfit will build one of those opaque off-road nylon tanks for it...it's certainly popular enuff to warrant it..... shinyribs
DOT approved tanks need to be metal so that fuel emissions won't seep out. That's why you always see plastic tanks on dirt bikes, but street-going dual sports come with metal tanks. Yeah, the aftermarket can get away with selling plastic tanks for street bikes, but it's not really above board. And nylon tanks are freaking heavy. Especially if they need to be built thick enough to seal to mount a fuel pump. The stock tank can go 200 miles pretty easily. It'll go 150 miles wringing the thing's neck in the mountains. Anyone looking for 300+ mile range on a touring bike is already gonna have a hard time finding that anywhere, and the little ol' 07 would most likely be the last bike most tourers would look at. I tour on my bike some, but I think the tank capacity fits the demographic Yamaha was shooting for.
klx678
Time to set up a rack or side mount for a RotoPax fuel container. Get a 1 or 2 gallon Two gallon here: One gallon is a lot smaller
Beemer
I believe Yamaha made the 700 Tracer for touring and going the distance and the FZ's/MT's for around town/short distance riding. It was designed for fun more so than comfort and long distance. 1 Beemer

Global Moderator sorkyah Posted October 18, 2019 Global Moderator Share Posted October 18, 2019 I've been tempted to have the fuel tank from a wrecked bike separated and a new one fabricated to match the bike's lines It's only money that's holding me back lately ATGATT... Premium Member norcal616 Posted October 18, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted October 18, 2019 Just tow one of them like 15-20gal agriculture sprayers... Remove the spray boom to have the tank pump transfer the fuel via hose to your bikes fuel tank ... Now you can cruise around with almost 25gals... 2015 fz-07- Hordpower Edition...2015 fj-09- 120whp- Graves Exhaust w/Woolich Race Kit- tuned by 2WDW

bugsinteeth
well, that's basically what I'm doing now....hauling two fuel bottles in a tank bag...LOL... but seriously, this thing needs a bigger tank....we have some of the best twisties on the planet out here in OryGun, because of the Timber dollars that built them...all the secondary two-lane roads are a cyclist's dream....they are smooth, and very nice..... gas stations on the other hand, are few and far between sometimes....THAT is why ....... no biggie, just surprised nobody has come forward with a solution to this..... HOWEVER,...after my ride today, ( I finally got to really try the NEW IMPROVED FZ-07 ), I'll freakin' live with it ! ! good LORD whatta difference ! Premium Member blackout Posted October 19, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted October 19, 2019 For what it's worth, I plan to weld up a custom tank this winter for my track bike. But it's my first tank and I'm still new to tig welding. My main goal is to design a tank that gives room for a better ram-air intake box and get rid of the heavy plastics covering the ugly stock tank.
