90% sure the roughest will not affect performance, may even improve it .

but try to change plastic , abs will smooth with acetone

pla or petg will not smooth

0.1mm layers will provide a better part to ( but is 2/3 times slower )

Petg and pla will smooth, but it requires sanding

You could also try pla+

It's a higher heat stable plastic with a better flow consistency than standard pla

@blackout

If you have the cad file, send it to me

I can test print one for ya

I have my printer currently setup for DnD/Warhammer figurines

I don’t know , I tried a couple of brands, pla+ is a weaker plastic but prints better , I really like petg and how it prints

It's actually tpu, I think my son said.  It has some flexibility so it fits nicely over the throttle bodies.  It turns out he had his printer temp set a little low, so he is going to try one at a higher temp.

Left side changes.  Rectifier is moved inward to clear bodywork.

You're gonna end up with a nicer, cleaner install than I have.  Looks awesome to boot!

Jealous.

Making progress on new ram-air box.

The filter is 6 inches long.  It hits a little under the R3 tank cover.  The 5 inch long should fit fine.  And of course, a custom fuel tank makes room for the new box design and will provide a tunnel to feed air to the filter.

Got any mockups of what your plan is for the tank?

The ram-air box is just about done.  I just need to fabricate the left side access cover.  An access cover was needed to install the velocity stacks.  In theory, different stacks can be installed while the air box is mounted on the bike.

The seat is installed in the stock fore/aft position to show clearance with the new air filter location.

Access cover done.

Now back to the fairing stay.

And I need to order some .125" 5086 aluminum for the fuel tank.  I'm curious how many gallons I can fit under the R3 tank cover since I'm giving up space for the intake filter.

I would have used a piece of carbon fiber a little smaller than the hole with a tpu gasket that locks in the hole ... but your solution is just so simple ,  I really like it and it's probably way better .. I overthink everything 😅

A custom fuel tank out of aluminum could be something a lot of people need .. you  may even  sell it , and even more if you make it oem compatible

Some cutting, adjusting, and sanding on the seat/tank piece and more to do, but here is where I am at now.

I purchased a 5 inch by 3 inch Uni filter which is slightly smaller than the K&N that I had on.  It fits under the tank cowling with room to spare.

Looking really good, love your fabrication skills and designs.

I’m gonna go to NYST this year just to see your FZ in person! (And to ride the track 😜)

Thanks guys!

Here are the sealing washers I will use to seal the fasteners that attach the fuel pump to the bottom of the tank.  Rated for 3,000 psi, $3 each from McMaster-Carr.   The stock tank has blind threaded holes so no sealing washers are needed.

So now I cut and tack pieces together.  I don't have a metal shear, so the pieces are cut with a hacksaw.  Not too bad, just takes time.  Believe it or not, a good masking tape can be used to position and draw the sheet pieces together.

A little more progress.  Old school tank vent.  Filler cap is a universal piece.

Building some killer fabrication skills. Making do with the tools you have is rock solid old school too. End result will something to be proud of.  Nice!
