Parrish Riding FZ07 -MotoAmerica

Anyone know why Parrish was on an FZ at NJMP?  I haven't caught up on the races yet but I saw on his IG that he was cruising around on the Yamaha...what's up with that?

Not sure, but it's pretty cool!

He posted on FB (nothing official) that he will be selling his own version of FZ07R bodywork.  His SV bodywork looks top notch and even made it on a JHS Racing SV 650 in the UK.

Well, we've been at the track all weekend again. This time we were graced by Andy Palmer and 2018 Twins Cup champion Chris Parrish. They were testing an AP MotoArts FZ07r with the full metal MotoAmerica spec. He's looking for any competitive edge he can find. They were having a tough time finding enough cost effective power out of the Suzuki to be competitive in MotoAmerica. (excepting the M4 guys with factory backing) Andy and he collaborated to see if they could come up with something to get back on the podium. The bike they tested on with us was test mule combining some existing parts and new stuff to see where they were at. 

The professional paddock is a small sandbox and everyone knows everyone and guys are constantly trying to come up with the secret to fast. There are a number of folks on/around this forum that work with other folks in the pursuit of high speed bliss. Check out JD Hord, Zoran @ TWF, Matt @ Robem Engineering, Forks by Matt, etc. Others that aren't here as well such as AP MotoArts (Andy Palmer), Ghetto Customs (Chris Parrish), and many others. 

All friends off track but blood enemies on. It's what drives our sport forward.

Thanks for the more in depth info. I had kinda assumed something along that lines seeing as it looks like he can really be down on speed sometimes compared to the FZ's. Would be interested in hearing his thoughts sometime later after he's ridden the fz a lot more.

Parrish felt it would give him the competitive edge he needed.   Andy offered him a ride on one of his bikes to ride at NJMP.  Bike was the rental bike Andy had at Sonoma.

The issue in my opinion isnt making power, We making similar power from the SV as the FZ (look at the trap speeds at NJMP) it totally comes down to what you have for funding.  The motor I built for Curtis Murray isnt a $4k build and has a bunch of small things that add up.  It took a bit of testing to get it there but looks like we are in the right direction.  Curtis only issue was front fell off trying to keep up with the kids.

Parrish's SV was similar to the motor he ran last year just with the +2mm pistons allowed.  Good build but not when you consider the money some of the Twins Cup riders are tossing at builds this year.

The class is evolving and its hard for any the older riders to compete with a kid that weighs 30-40 lbs less making even close to the same power.  They are easier on tires and can accelerate quicker.

To the last part of your statement, it's obvious when Draik made a mistake at sonoma on the last turn coming on to the start finish line how much he could recoup in a short amount of time. Saying that though ,the speed trap times at other tracks (Road America) and a few more the AP Moto Arts FZ-07 ridden by Draik Beauchamps was faster, I'm just saying NJMSP in my eye's isn't a good reference. I wish everyone out there racing the best of luck, and being safe is paramount, (PJ had some thoughts on this) and (SDK's Dad wasn't impressed), I'm just giving my opinion, I don't race, nor am I an expert on anything related to building motorcycles. Just my .02C

I’ve had both bikes on my dyno... 

It is a 20 lb lighter bike with a 25 lb lighter rider though .
