R6 Front Forks (What Year)?

If one was to do the R6 front end, does it matter the year of the R6 donor? Are they all the same?

Thanks

They are the same for 2008-2016 R6. This is the route most people go-

I'm not 100% sure what changed in 2017? I just know what most folks are doing-

I assume the stock MT-07 wheels don't work with R6 forks?

No.

So for that swap one would need the following:

Forks

Triple clamps

2 x F6 calipers

2 x F6 disks

F6 wheels

Basically everything from the stock MT07 is trash. ;)

Yep, you forgot new top bearing and race for headtube, it's different.

Nice, so lengthen the stock forks by 10mm and add the K-Tech cartridges, done.... ;)

No need to lengthen the forks, just do a nice upgrade if you're so inclined or budget fix if cash strapped. Or an R6 conversion if you like. I'm just throwing out all the common options. All the common cartridge kits fit stock length forks. The 10mm thing is the rough amount you can raise the forks, if deemed necessary, in the tripples before you encounter potential interference issues. There are many good ways to go depending on your objectives and budget.

Cheers.

stickshift

If racing is your objective some are of the opinion that the greater rigidity of the R6 forks can lead to more chassis flex than ideal.

They do look great though! 😉

This will be a dedicated track bike and I don't care how it looks as long as I get the proper suspension setup.

If you're building a track bike then put carts in the front and a good shock out back and quit fooling around, lol.

A second set of wheels for rains if you're serious helps.

On second thought go with an R6 front and sell me that trash for $25, haha.

lol..... Wheels, do the 2016-2017 FZ-07 wheels for the 2018-2019 MT-07? From the part numbers I think they do.

Yep, you're good. Discounting abs that is.

I put 2010 r1 forks and the setup that I did I was able to maintain factory bearings.

Right, but you did a mash up of various parts like everyone does when they retrofit parts onto an FZ07. You used R1 forks with an FZ09 stem welded to the lower with stock bearings and an FZ09 upper tree. Point being it's seldom a simple bolt on replacement.

😉
