Furthermore the #fz07racingprototype gets it's own logo...

Can't let the Yamaha YZR M1 MotoGP bike have all the fun, now can we?

:)

Finally, all the mechanicals are DONE!  Managed to get the custom brake lines all installed and bled, cleaned front and rear calipers and installed new pads, rear shock is in with proper length bolts in the new linkage, carbon heal guards installed, throttle cables finally adjusted, new clutch cable routed much better (still a little long though), and all the electronics and cabling all tidied up.

Stock front fender is cut like my rendering (which I know, you haven't seen yet, haha).  Still have to cut my carbon one, and install my new grips, then I can install my bodywork, YaY!

Sneek peek with the mock up nose and tank cover in place :)

So, quick update...

Body panels are almost finished.  Made a change to the seat area.  Was going to extend the sides down to give me more surface area for livery, but in practice not such a great idea.  It would bolt to the sides of the frame where the passenger pegs are, and one more bolt on the vertical part of the frame.  Trouble is, that means taking the tail off would require removing 10 fasteners - not a great idea for many reasons especially since the passenger peg bolts are holding my exhaust hangar on the one side, and my remote reservoir for the rear shock on the other.

My fix is to just make a separate panel on each side that bolts to that area, and tucks under the tail unit.  Yes, there will be a seam there, but it'll be hidden by the livery.

Speaking of the livery, I finally nailed down the "Prototype Camo Pattern".  Think "dazzle camo" from WW1.  It was used on ships to make it difficult to estimate a target's range, speed, and heading.  Red Bull used something similar on there F1 test car years back.  I came up with a different take on it, and my buddy printed some on vinyl wrap material in different aspect ratios to see which one I liked best.  You'd be surprised how different things can look at different scales.  I liked 100% best.  Without giving to much away, here's a sneak peek :)

In other news, the suspension is off to K-Tech, and I finally got my wheel/tire combo completed - Dymag UP7X Forged Aluminum Wheels, with EBC VEE rotors secured with Proti Forged Ti Bolts and Talon Aluminum sprocket secured with Proti Forged Ti Nuts.

New Velocity Stacks arrived by CarbonSmith (different length to test a theory), and another set of custom MWR RACE filters came so I can have another whole assembly to hot swap back and forth on the Dyno for definitive results.

Next week is when the fun happens, when I try and put this puzzle together to get it ready for final assembly, then the body goes to Texas to get wrapped :)

Wish me luck!

- Paul

Is that rear Dymag specifically for the FZ or is it an R6 wheel?

Excited to be following this!

Gotcha! My plan is to run an R6 UP7X with spacers (since it's a direct OEM replacement from my understanding), and I was just seeing if you beat me to the punch. Its so can I utilize an underslung caliper and have a wider array of brake options compared to FZ stuff. Thanks for the reply! 😁

In the wild!  By now, you've probably seen the bike in the other thread, but I snapped a pic in it's natural habitat, the paddock, LoL.

I'm at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Ca, doing a bit operational shakedown tests.

So far so good.  Bike flat out RIPS!  Motor feels extremely strong, fueling is perfect, and suspension supple but firm.  KTech did an excellent job of getting me a good baseline when they did the initial cartridge install...tire wear is perfect, and I didn't feel the need to change any settings.  Operationally, it was a successful test.

Bike held together, and more importantly than anything else, I feel safe on it.

As far as lap times go, I can say this...my best time so at would have netted me 5th place in the last WERA race here for the class, and it was less than a second away from 4th place, and 3 seconds away from a podium.

Of course, it's all relative because I don't really know the level of competition, but that's where I stacked up against the last race in the class here.

I'll take it as a positive, since I haven't ridden in 10 months, I'm on a new bike, and I've never been to this track before...

Black on Grey?!?!  Hmm, on my computer it's black text on white background, both here and on Facebook... weird.

Yes, I've raced Chuckwalla a lot.  Did two full season there on my R3.  Won the championship the first year as an amateur, and was runner up the following year as an expert.

I'll be there in two weeks to race the FZ...you going?

No I won't be at chuckwalla, I live in Arkansas. I'm having a hard time just prepping for my local track days at Hallett:

If your doing MA twins eventually, I might be at, Bama,Indy,Jersey,Pitt. as a spectator, depending on other commitments.

Good Luck Paul, Man a 5th. place from the back! with an off! Sounds like you did well to me on the first shakedown of the bike. No WSBK@Laguna has changed my plans for heading west. Pity!!

I love Hallett!  Used to be stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, and tracked my cars at Hallet quite a bit.

Yeah, Laguna will be different this year for sure, but hey, it's in Monterey, so at least when you're not at the venue it'll still be awesome! :)

I saw him race at Hallett for the Dunlop invitational. Last race of the day he came to pit lane last in a frantic rush, did the warm up lap, and smoked everyone. I think he lapped everyone except 3rd. and 2nd. place. He came in to the pit area gave his bike to his Dad and just lay down on the ground. He was scary to watch, as I really thought he was going to crash he was so fast, it seemed he was just hitting apex after apex and not letting off at all.

Thanks!

Yeah, Rocco was actually in my race.  He was 4-5 seconds faster.  He got the fastest time, then there was someone else about a second or two behind him, then me with the third fastest time, which was about 4-5 seconds behind Rocco - and he was on his Ninja 400!

He regularly embarrasses everyone at Chuckwalla on his 400, when others are on literbikes.  And then the first time he jumped on a BMW S1000RR at Chuck, he was faster than all of my FAST friends who've been riding literbikes for YEARS, by at least 2 seconds.

Really hope he makes it to the top of the sport :)
