Stripped axle nut lock on non chain side.

I used my owners manual and looked up a video, as I was going to tighten my chain. As I went to loosen axle nut it was difficult I assumed from 76 ft lbs or dealer over tightening. It broke free from it's grooves. It spins freely and the nut is still on there relatively tight. I was turning counter clockwise and had the locking bolts loosened. I just don't know how I'm supposed to get it off to replace now.15518226746323320633051466370654.thumb.jpg.4a5e8469d07b7010c0455a7478292ca3.jpg

Sorry to hear about your issues. You're not the first to have this issue I'm afraid.

Sounds like time to grind a socket or something to make a forked tool to hold the axle bolt still while loosening the nut. Not a big fan of the axle setup on this bike when a standard head bolt and cotter pinned retained nut would be just as secure and a lot less prone to issues.

1. Order a new axle and nut, you're about to destroy them.

2. Use an air chisel to split the nut off the axle.

They are cheap but you can either rent or buy one if you don't have access to one.

That's unfortunate @jeremycompton

It's happened to a couple people on here as @i28 has pointed out

Unfortunately you'll need to get a new axle, axle

holder and nut

Partzilla or Yamaha partshouse for oem wholesale prices on the holders and axle

For the nut, I would recommend @bellissimoto

They sell the gilles titanium nut  that doesn't have the lock ring but instead uses a jam screw

I have it on my bike and it makes it so easy for removal.

what is the nut size? I'd rather use a castle nut and drill the axle so I can run a pin through it.

I believe it’s M18 x 1.5.  I used a rear axle nut from an SV650.
