Wrapped FZ07

My 2017 silver and black FZ wrapped with urban grey digi camo.  This was my first go at wrapping anything and it turned out better than expected.  It was so cheep and easy I am already thinking what I could do next.Screenshot_20180912-131624_Gallery.thumb.jpg.80e001a9624166c17c99bf68a90f4dc3.jpg

Looks good! I had a hard time choosing what color I wanted to do mine in. Went bright for safety reasons in Tucson.

Did you wrap it on the the bike?

My question is whether its legal or not. The registration says x color and this is something different. Will the police give you trouble if stopped?

The insurers might want to know too.

Just do it!

It's no different than repainting a car from that perspective. My VIN on my car says yellow, but the car is now orange. It can be annoying at times (especially since shops cannot look up the factory color), but it has never been more than an annoyance. That being said, there could be rules that I've just never bothered to read, haha.

In Greece (Europe) the vehicle's registration must match the vehicle's color.

If the registration says red and you have re-painted your vehicle, you must change your registration to reflect it. Otherwise you get a fine if discovered.
Now when it comes to vinyl wraps, the change is not permanent. The law isn't clear on what happens in this case. At least not clear to me. Do you have to report it and change the registration, or not?
Any police officers here?

Since you're thinking of what you can do next may I suggest you either paint or wrap the two silver side panels in black, they're stealing the attention the tank should be getting. Everything but the panels is subdues to a point (think sore thumb). Your choice of course. ✌️ Nice wrap job!

This is very cool!

I'm clueless on this topic. How does the wrapping take place? Can it be peeled off without affecting the stock finish?

Its just tacky vinyl but the sticky side can be lifted and repositioned as much as you need.  The whole thing can easily be removed and it wont effect the stock paint.

Well my registration says silver and it still is for the most part, kinda. I dont think urban digital camo is an option on the DOL registration lol.  I should be fine the way it is, if a cop wants to harrass me it wont be because my color doesn't match my reg. exactly

I am thinking about painting them black, I agree it would look better.  I am just worried it will wear through from my leg rubbing against it and that would look ugly.  I might try some black plasti dip and see if it stays in good shape, if not just peel it off.

Looks great. How much did you end up paying for the material in the end? Was it difficult to cut and get it all lined up?

Cost me $35 in material and laying it out and cutting the shapes needed was easy.

Would some plain black vinyl wrap stand up to the rubbing? Maybe a few coats of clear coat over blk. paint??? Or maybe just spray that leg with some WD-40. Ha, I kid!

Good question, might be worth a try with the black vinyl because if it does get worn just peel it off and good as new.  Black paint or powder coat with a good clear might be the best long term solution

FYI - Painted mine black  a year ago and holding up supersizing well. Give the  durability credit the rust-oleum self etching primer @ H.D. and the and 2 final clear coats.

I've seen that in other threads here. Word is the plasti dip holds up well. Easy fix if you do wear through it too

Thanks for the info on the wrap. I think I'll check in to this.

On the frame side covers/ fake frame spars... I just took mine off. Need to tidy up a couple wires, but no big deal. Doesn't look empty without them and they weighed like 1lb each! Dead weight IMO. Taking those parts off for free + a $20ishebay tail tidy and you've got the same weight savings as an aftermarket exhaust! Value! haha

If you are local ( shipping 2 ways would probably cost too much) I could powdercoat them for you on the cheap! Could do the pair in gloss or satin black for $20. I've been contemplating blacking out the whole foot control/ heel plate assemblies. On the fence, though.

Also, it's not cheap but something you could do yourself easily- Go to a Harley dealership and buy a can of their wrinkle black. The stuff is bullet proof. Honestly, is properly applied, it's probably a good bit stronger than powdercoat. Don't think you can buy it online. I think you have to go in the dealership. Only place I could find it.

Cool thanks, several good options there.  I think im going to remove them and see how Iike it.  I Just installed my Ohlins shock last night, which is awesome btw,  so anything that shows that off is a bonus on top of clean looking and weight saving.

@shinyribs

I personally like that the best. I forget who did that some time ago, maybe it was you that posted it but I'd forgot about doing that. The less plastic and bulk on a bike the better, imo. I'll probably do that to my bike and thanks for jogging my memory.
