BlueMule
Just doing the obligatory intro. Just picked up a new MT yesterday, been lurking here for awhile. Not sure if i have much to contribute yet but gimme some time and i'm sure i'll have something. right now its just the search for mods and accessories. Green Bay here, BTW, if anyone wants to meat up. Heading to the Wi. MotoGuzzi rally tomorrow.

What are your impressions so far? Pics, I'll have to figure out how you guys do that here and i'll post up the one shot i took today. First bike? No, fourth, not including the hand me down dirt bike and mini bike i rode as a kid. 2006 BMW F650GS, 2012 Super Tenere and a 2008 DRZ400. Long story, but i got into bikes late in life. got the bmw, put 20,000 miles on it in a year and a half, decided i needed something bigger for long distance, so i sold the bmw and got the Tenere. Put 30,000 miles on that in 3 years. 2 years ago i came to the conclusion that it would take 3 bikes to tic all the boxes for me, ADV touring, dirt and a day ride/city bike. I spend more time up north in the woods, so got the DRZ and put about 3500 miles on it. This April i took it out to an ADV rally in California. Once again, long story, but got in an accident and totaled the DRZ along with some body parts. I'm just about back to 100% minus a surgery i'll be having on my rotator cuff come mid Sept. All of which brings me to #4, this MT. Couple things going on there. 1- Chomping at the bit to get back in the saddle, i've been looking at bikes since my accident. 2-I had the DRZ, figured i'd try the 'third' bike in my list of 3 needed. 3- I'm a regular over on ADV Rider and had ran a rally last year with another one scheduled for this labor day. I cant quite manhandle the Tenere well yet because of my shoulder, but i'll be damned if i'm going to my own rally, about 50 miles from the BearTooths, Chief Joseph and in the Bighorns without a bike. In all reality getting this was stupid as hell, since i'm only going to get a month out of it before i have to park it for the season....but the Beartooths looming right around the corner and knowing i'll use the hell out of this thing next spring, i pulled the trigger anyway. BlueMule
7 hours ago, Beemer said: What are your impressions so far? Forgot to address this point... First impressions? Well My first ride today was 190 miles. I went out in the country and eased into the bike, still being a bit paranoid after my get off this spring and the bike being new to me. From my previous bikes, you can see this is my first street only bike, so a few things stand out. 1- Suspension on this thing is a bit jarring. i'm not sure if its my 6'2" and 215 # fat ass maxing it out or if its the short swingarm and short fork travel. I guess in hindsight, i never bottomed out the front and all the jarring felt like it was from the rear, so probably mostly the shortsuspension travel in the back. 2- the motor and gearbox feel VERY familiar after the time spent on the Tenere. 3-for a 'little' bike, it fits my frame pretty well. only point of ergos that might bother me is the pegs placement, counld be a bit lower for my legs, but its not bad. i cant imagine guys much bigger than me being happy on this thing for any lengthy trips. 5 hours today was tolerable , had i been droning on slab, it could suck. 4- i can see a fly screen in my future. 5- this thing eats up corners pretty well. I rode some of the better stuff i have locally, sweepers mostly but a few tighter corners (nothing that would impress folks from the Appalachians ) and its just SOOO easy to ride. 6- My drivers license could be in serious jeopardy in areas that are posted 30-45. 7- i could see this bike being a serious hooligan machine in the hands of a more skilled rider than I. Beemer
Nice write up and sorry to hear about your accident. From the sounds of it I have the feeling you're going to be fine, you obviously have motorcycle in your blood. Looking forward to your pic or any others with mods in the future. BTW, there's a lot of good info/links on suspension here, GL! Stay frosty! Beemer
Global Moderator tavisb Posted August 3, 2018 Global Moderator Share Posted August 3, 2018 Welcome! Going to the FZ-07 from dual sport and adventure bikes, I think the reduced suspension travel is what you are feeling. Took me a bit to get used to also. youtube.com/tavisbogue

BlueMule
almost 500 miles. time to get oil change stuff , check everything over good and call 'break in' complete.
BlueMule
Oil and Filter changed out. It didnt look too horrible compared to my Tenere after a cross continent ride. Checked chain. Glad i did,the setup guy had the rear axle a little cattywampus. Chain needed a tad of tightening, got axle straight, then cleaned and lubed chain. Gonna see if i can mount my old gps bracket next. if that works out i'll be looking for some power options. I can see i'm gonna need a stand and bobbins. no center stand like my old F650 and cant prop it up on a dirtbike stand liket he DRZ. After this first 500 miles, looking over bike and available parts/upgrades... small windscreen, radiator guard, a basic set of sliders and probably case guards. Maybe a fender delete and led blinkers. then run it for 20ish thousand miles and address the suspension.

BlueMule
Got the windscreen on and hard wired in a cheapo gps i won in a raffle. With the offset of gps, theres perfect room to reach key. Tapped power off the auxiliary lights next to headlight, we'll have to see if the fuse will hold up.
Global Moderator mjh937 Posted August 13, 2018 Global Moderator Share Posted August 13, 2018 @BlueMule, on the FZ there is an aux power port under the left tank plastic. I assume the 2018 has one too, so if your power solution does not work that is an option.
RRR
Hey BlueMule, you're tall for the bike, like me. If feeling cramped in the saddle check out the High seat Yamaha released for the 2018. raises seat height by just over an inch. I currently have one on order, coupled with some rear sets the bike should feel a lot more comfortable https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/kv/products/motorcycles/hyper-naked/mt-07.aspx?view=accessories&partcode=B4C-247C0-00-00&year=2018

It was a spur of the moment idea and i wanted switched power. Are there wiring schematics here or someplace else on the web? 41 minutes ago, RRR said: Hey BlueMule, you're tall for the bike, like me. If i was to tour on it, i'd for sure want more room though.

Yeah I agree, while small it didn't feel too cramped, then I lowered the bars. Now its cramp city
