Matris Cartridge Kit Installation?

Hey guys,

I finally bought the F15k kit, and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction here. I've rebuilt the forks before and feel comfortable doing them myself, but I can't seem to find a thread where someone posts all the steps in the installation. That'd be a huge help.

Thanks.

This would be helpful as well. I was discussing upgrading the front and rear with Pattonme and he recommended the matris kit and said i could DIY it, but I assume he is busy as I have not heard back.

there's a reasonably detailed booklet that comes with.

You'll want to buy a thin oil for the compression leg <11cst@40 (eg. Belray HVI 3w) and use a 16-19cSt@40 in the rebound leg. The included jug of Motorex is 5W (22cSt@40) if I remember and you can try it on the Reb leg but since there is a compression base valve in that leg too I think you'll find you need to thin it out.

Y'all replaced your bushings too, yes? Might as well do that while you're in there. To over-simplify:

  1. remove damper rod bolt
  2. unread cap and dump entire contents
  3. split forks and replace slider bushing
  4. chase damper rod bolt with die
  5. move spring seat ring to lowest of 3 grooves - you actually need a groove 7-10mm below that. Have lathe?
  6. drop F15 into fork, secure with bolt
  7. dump oil in, bleed, set oil height (imo 140mm)
  8. drop in spring and attach cap
  9. re-install on bike
  10. wipe shet-eating grin off face

No worries. You said you were busy and backlogged. I've been there as well. I am in no rush.

I finished installing them last night (waiting for the seals to arrive), but I didn't set the ring in the lowest groove, I left it in the middle one (which is how it came from the factory). What's the reasoning for moving it?

the 3 grooves are misplaced. You end up with a preposterous amount of preload in the system. I cut another groove 8mm below the lowest so you end up with 10mm of initial preload. Measure your rider and bike sag.

It seemed the ring was on there pretty good last night. Is it safe to take off with a screwdriver or am I risking damaging it?

it's just stiff wire. Any scratches you put on the outside of the tube are inconsequential.
