  1. Good morning all, I've been riding a little over a year, with the R3 being my first motorcycle. It is a fabulous machine that has served as a reliable learning platform, but I've been considering selling the bike and moving to one of the naked variety. I am wanting to upgrade because I want a little more power and torque off the line, passing potential on the freeway, etc. Not interested in a true supersport like the R6 since I do city riding and commuting and have no use for the top-end power. I'd like something I can take my wife on (R3 is too small for this), and go for longer treks while remaining comfortable. I at first considered the FZ-09, but its pretty powerful and I'm not really looking to do a bunch of wheelies or anything crazy. Seems like the FZ-07 is the sweet spot for me. Any thoughts on the FZ-07 as a second/upgrade motorcycle for a city commuter that rides the freeway occasionally?
  2. Hi guys, My name is Daniel and I am part of a Formula student racing team Rennstall Esslingen (www.rennstall-esslingen.de). This season we are building a new powertrain unit based on a 2014 Yamaha MT-07 engine. We are also adding a Rotrex supercharger... The reason I am writing here is because we have an issue with the initial power-up of the engine after the rebuild that includes custom engine internals. We are going to run the engine with a Bosch MS4 Sport ECU or a MoTec M400 and some different sensors but we are unable to access the original Yamaha ECU and its base Fuel and Ignition maps. There is a lot of information on the internet but any maps that are available are locked to a specific SW and format. The big question is how can we get hold of the base/stock fuel and ignition maps in a neutral data format so we can create our maps on the custom ECU. We would greatly appreciate any help or suggestion. Thank you for your time! P.S. Attached is a little photo for those interested to see the engine in an unusual place :).

    River Road Ride

Took a ride along the Saint John River Road today--as you can see, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
  5. How much do you love your FZ-07 on a scale of 1 - 10? One being not at all, and ten being it's the best bike ever. Personally I would rate my FZ an 8 overall--it does have some suspension shortcomings. That being said, I would rate it a 10 in the fun department. How would you rate your FZ?

    FZ-07 Wish List?

With Christmas fast approaching, I was wondering what fellow members have on their FZ-07 wish list. Here's my list: 1) Heated grips 2) Front suspension upgrade 3) Rear suspension upgrade 4) Aftermarket exhaust 5) ECU flash to go with aforementioned exhaust It will probably only take me about five to ten Christmases to complete this list. LOL
  12. When I first saw the XSR 700 I wasn't a fan of the look, but the more I looked at the XSR 700 the more I got to thinking it's not that bad looking except for that "coffee can" headlight. Here's a couple of pics to compare: one with the stock headlight and one with a more aesthetically pleasing headlamp. Now I'm beginning to think that the XSR 700 has retro style potential after all. What say You?

Still hanging on even though the riding season is winding down here. Went for a ride along the Saint John River road today. It was overcast, cool and blustery, but I still enjoyed the ride immensely.

  15. Yamaha describes the FZ-07 cylinders this way: Direct ceramic composite plated cylinder uses "liner less" bores. ceramic coating sprayed directly on the aluminum block, eliminating the liner & reducing weight excellent heat dissipation for consistent power delivery coating enhances the thin film of oil between the cylinder & piston, reducing friction & increasing power I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to the longevity of this type of cylinder configuration? Are they better, worse, or just different than steel lined cylinders?
