Picked up a brand new 2017 Yamaha FZ-07 on Saturday.

Here's the twist on engine break-in though.  The operating manual states to "avoid prolonged operation above 5,000 r/min".  The service manager told me to ride like I normally would.  My last bike was an R1.

Welcome and congrats! I could be wrong but if you ride at a constant speed a lot your moving parts aren't being stressed as much and will not be as loose/flexible (like you want them to be) after the supposed break in point. I broke in two Yamaha Visions (drunk driver bought the second bike), the first one I broke in real easy, (per manual) super babied it and after the break in it ran real tight. The second one I broke in much harder and you could feel the difference in the engine. It was more way more relaxed. I didn't red line it like some people say you can and it ran fine.
