CA Evap emissions canister

Recommended Posts

Quick question - looking for confirmation of my guess.  I purchased my FZ in California but no longer live there, and have no plans of returning.  Am I correct in believing that I can remove the evap canister once the bike is registered in another state, or is this a legal grey area?

If the state that you moved in doesn't conduct smog testing on motorcycles, I'm sure its ok to remove but why? There isn't anything gained by doing so.

I was under the impression that it is a restriction in the intake circuit. It probably weighs a pound or two, also.

No its not a restriction. Its an emission capturing device. Basically the charcoal canister just recaptures fuel vapors from the tank and reuses them when drawn back into the intake manifold. Thats it.

You'd be shedding a couple pounds of plastic and tubing at most, I'd just leave it be.

Couple of pounds? Even that is a very far stretch. That canister weighs less than a pound

Hence the "at most".
