How To: Mesh install

Recommended Posts

One of the available Yamaha accessories is coloured mesh for the air intake and the side covers. It comes in red, white, blue and black.

I ordered a set last week and I just installed them. It turned out to be quite a bit of work. I had to strip down the rear and the tank panels. It wasn't difficult but tedious and time consuming.

I snapped a couple of pictures for your enjoyment. I love the result. I think it complements my red spring and gives the bike a more personalized look. The orange turn signals look a bit out of place, but they will be gone soon.

I will make some more pictures outside once the weather clears up. Lot's of rain. No riding for me today.

Those look great, I really dig it with the red spring. Might try to fabricate my own inserts later on down the line, unless they're priced really well.

Thanks for sharing!

Edit: Also the cleaned up rear end is a big improvement. Did you fab that or go with a kit?

Everything went braap.

Thanks!
The mesh inserts are not cheap (for what it is) but I have 'a guy' so I get a discount on stuff. They are good quality and pre formed which makes it easier to install.

The Tail Tidy is the Yamaha 'Sport Licence Plate Holder' without the middle part. Lots of info here  ::)

When you said you were going to do that I did not think I would like it. I was wrong. It looks great.

To be honest, I thought the same thing and I am glad I was wrong too.
I was hoping for this look:

and was afraid it would turn into this:

But it didn't  :D

You've got to stop giving me ideas! It looks great, thanks for taking the time to take pictures!!
Side note: did you happen to notice any flasher relay during your digging beneath panels and such?

I actually went looking for it and I think it's here:

I'm not sure though. I tried the signals but I couldn't hear of feel it clicking. But it looks like a relay and it had some text on it referring to 4 bulbs or lights. I didn't disconnect it to verify it was the relay, sorry.

I also could't find the elusive 12V aux plug btw

Yes, that text referring to 4 bulbs is what gives it away. Thanks for checking! When the new relay arrives, I will go through the process in the dedicated thread!

For sure, bike looks good when nude. Maybe we can suggest that to Guru, this way he can finally get a bike of a reasonable color, as that white he's rocking looks slow :)

Oh no not the battle of the colors again!  I thought we settled that. Come on, a white bike with red air intakes FTW!

By the way, am I the only who thinks the bike looks kinda sexy "super naked"?
Me too man! I wish I can just throw a leather seat on it and leave it like that.

I was just teasing - you left that door open 8-)Of course, it looks super cool. And it matches the colors of Hinomaru, too.

I'm digging the white and red! I I'd be curious to see how and all black bike with those red inserts would look.

wonder if I could just spray the stock mesh...

I think you could. But there is no mesh in the back of the bike. Just a plastic cover plate.
The stock front mesh is not that sturdy and the replacement actually slides in front of the original mesh. You need to pry off 3 rings to take off the mesh.

It slides in front of the existing mesh at the front and the covers in the back. You wil have to do quite a bit of work taking off the body work as you can see in the pictures. You will have to take your time.

Just took of the fairings on the bike and see the retainer clips.
Maybe a little tricky to remove them after all, but going to try because 'MERICA!

Just got the blue front pieces for my bike and trying to hold off on install til I get the rear pieces so I'm not taking things apart more than once. If I was a smart man I would have realized earlier that they had pieces for the rear available I could have saved a few bucks in shipping. And I agree with GURU for what they are, its quite pricey.
